The Appeal

Even today, if you venture into any Italian city you’re bound to come across a Fiat 500. The multi-million selling microcar was not only a means of transport, but also a national institution. Today’s collectors the world over clamour to get their hands on the best examples of what is one of the most collectable, cherished and recognisable cars ever made.

This one, freshly restored and from a private collection, is as good as they get. It’s a 1969 500L, the L meaning ‘Lusso’, or ‘Luxury’, which brings such decadence as sliding canvas sunroof, opening quarterlights and carpets.

The vendor has recently had the car restored by an Italian Fiat 500 specialist and it’s presented for sale in superb, freshly painted condition. Everything was unbolted and stripped and either replaced or refurbished.

Its early history is unknown, but then essentially you’re buying a new car given how thorough the rebuild is. It also comes with some delightful period improvements, such as a removable Tanga radio (itself very collectable) and a revised steering block. The vendor is also including some brand new carpet mats, replacement wheel trims and an MPH speedo fascia, which are included in the sale for the new owner to attach should they wish.

Overall, it’s a gorgeous example of one of the all-time classic icons, finished in one of the best colours and restored to an exceptionally high standard.

It looks fantastic and appears to be in great health mechanically – a wonderfully characterful classic that’s ready to jump into and enjoy.
