The Appeal

When Jaguar acquired fellow British automaker Daimler in 1960, it bought into more than just a badge. The year before, Daimler had released the SP250 - a highly unusual glass-fibre sports car which featured a sublime V8 engine designed by the great Edward Turner. This was just the sort of lightweight, powerful engine Jaguar’s founder William Lyons wanted to upgrade his XK-engined MkII, so in 1962, the Daimler V8 250 was born.
The story goes that the best MkII shells were selected from the production line and transformed into Daimlers. This is one of those cars, dating from 1969. It looks wonderful in Willow Green and is in lovely condition having been garage-stored throughout the vendor’s long tenure. Unusually for a car of this vintage, this Daimler has had just two registered keepers and the vendor acquired it from its original owner in 1994. The vendor has carried out their own servicing, ensuring the car remains in good driving order and we’re assured that it is ready to enjoy.

The History and Paperwork

  • Just two registered keepers
  • In present ownership since August 1994
  • Less than 1,000 miles covered since the rebuild was completed
  • 99,218 miles indicated
  • The vendor carries out their own servicing, so there is limited paperwork to attest to this
  • Several significant invoices present for parts acquisition
  • V5C present
  • Exempt from road tax and MOT testing

The Condition

  • Sandblasted and refinished underneath around twenty years ago, reportedly dry-stored ever since and used almost exclusively in dry conditions
  • The vendor informs us that there are no visual signs of corrosion present
  • The bodywork appears very straight and solid, while the doors, boot lid and bonnet fit nicely
  • Very fashionable “Willow Green” colour scheme
  • “Slimline” bumpers with overriders
  • Original chromework in very good condition for its age
  • Luxuriously appointed cabin reserved for Daimler-badged models
  • The upholstery has been renovated to a good standard while retaining an age-commensurate patina
  • The woodwork presents well overall with some light deterioration with age
  • Period Motorola radio fitted
  • Aftermarket hazard lights with discreet switch
  • The controls, instruments and switchgear present very well with light patina

The Mechanics

  • 2,548 cc V8 engine
  • Three-speed automatic gearbox
  • Un-assisted steering
