The most
In the 1960s, Britain had its military-focused Mini Moke, while Fiat took a more beach-oriented approach with the Jolly. But only Citroën offered buyers a car suitable for both - the Mehari. In fact, the Mehari, like the 2CV on which it was based, could essentially go anywhere.
It was the brainchild of a Second World War aviation ace who was looking for a new market for his plastics company. Roland De La Poype took inspiration from the Mini Moke, but designed a more versatile vehicle with better ground clearance, softer suspension and a stronger ABS plastic body.
The Mehari was a huge success, selling well to both the military and private customers. It remained in production for 18 years in 2-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive versions, in two- and four-seater configurations.
Here is a 1969 4-seater - correctly registered on the Carte Grise - and freshly restored in summer white - almost immaculate - with a two-tone interior. What we have here is a truly charming and fun example of one of these much-loved classics.
