1969 Austin Mini 1000 Mk II Automatic

Highlights

  • Restored bodywork and resprayed paint
  • Retrimmed interior
  • In excellent condition underneath

The Appeal

There’s nothing quite like a classic Mini, with its appeal right the way across the social spectrum and its ability to capture the hearts and minds of an entire nation and beyond.
This particular Mk II is presented in fantastic condition throughout, having ben restored in 2019 and reportedly only covered 500 miles since. Just a quick glance underneath will show reveal the excellent condition of this car, with its bright red paintwork gleaming even on its underside.
The interior was retrimmed, the body repaired and the paint resprayed, resulting in a car which is now a joy to look at. And being an automatic, this car is quite a rare and desirable survivor.

  • To the rear, the boot features a single fuel tank and cardboard battery cover
  • There is currently no spare wheel fitted but original will be supplied

The Exterior

  • The body and paint of this Mini are presented in very good condition, having been subject to a restoration in 2019
  • The vendor tells us that the car has only been driven around 500 miles since, and been stored in a garage when not in use
  • The panels look nice and straight, with good shut lines
  • Bright red paint suits the car and retains a deep shine
  • There are one or two small chips, such as on the rear right wing, but these don’t detract from the car’s overall excellent appearance
  • All the external trim is present and correct
  • The chrome plating shows little sigh of pitting or damage
  • The lamp lenses look clear and bright
  • Rubber seals appear fresh and supple
  • Underneath, the car is very clean and tidy
  • It hasn’t been undersealed, so all is proudly on show
  • There are a few small patches of the lightest surface corrosion
  • You know it’s good when you can see the ground reflected in the paint
  • The car runs on 10-inch steel wheels, with large original chrome hubcaps
  • There are some spots of corrosion on the wheels, and the hubcaps are dented in places
  • The tyres appear to retain good tread

The Mechanics

  • 998cc A-Series engine
  • Automatic transmission
  • Front-wheel drive
  • The engine bay looks clean and tidy
  • The vendor tells us that the car has not been driven for 18 months, but it starts and runs well
  • The car still retains its hydrolastic suspension
  • Running gear underneath in good condition, with only a little surface rust on the suspension components
  • It looks like the exhaust, brake lines and various rubber gaiters were replaced during the restoration

Summary

A good looking, useable example of a Mk II Mini, which features an automatic gearbox and has been the subject of a recent restoration.
