Highlights
- Highly impressive white paintwork with black contrast interior
- Distinctive deco dashboard with chrome-trimmed instruments
- Lesser-spotted Cabriolet model with black soft top
The Appeal
The Volkswagen Beetle is an undeniable icon of motoring. With their characteristic shape and the brand’s rule of only changing a model when required, the legendary Bug remained in production for decades and quickly became a legendary dominator in the European small car market. Whether you see it as a busy little city car or a laid-back surf mobile - or hell, as Herbie - it’s hard to deny the influence these motors have had on popular culture.
This example has been beautifully kept, with the lesser-spotted Karmann cabriolet design, and the ‘68-introduced exterior filler cap. The result is a stylish period car that’s ready and waiting to hit the road and looks in fine-enough fettle to stay there for another half-century.
The History and Paperwork
- Sadly no paperwork is provided with this car
- Licence Disc expires in May 2023
- Last tested and inspected in May 2022
- Car indicates 139km, however, this is on a five-figure odometer
- It’s therefore likely to be a 100,139km car considering its age
The Interior
- Attractive white painted dashboard with tactile controls
- Beautifully appointed with only a light patina
- Original period radio installed
- Attractive combined speedo / odo / fuel gauge in deco ‘record’ dial
- Two-spoke branded steering wheel in good order
- No reported faults to any of the instruments
- Nicely appointed black vinyl seats and door cards
- No rips or tears to the upholstery that we can discern
- No rips or tears to the carpets which appear to be in good order
- Overall, a very pleasant period interior that appears to be in fine fettle
The Exterior
- Beautifully kept white pearlescent paintwork with chrome accents
- No obvious bubbling or blistering we’ve been able to discern
- Paintwork appears free of cracks, chips or flaking
- Arches are solid and nicely appointed with no clear issues on display
- No signs of discolouration in the hinges, seams or hatches
- We note that the window seals are cracking at the edges, though aren’t a cause for concern
- The black soft-top appears to be in good order, protected by a tonneau cover
- The car is sitting on a good set of VW branded wheels, which are shod in an excellent set of whitewalls
- Underneath, the car has been treated and looks to be in good order
- Some peel to the exhaust muffler is all that we can highlight - meaning this bug is in rare order!
The Mechanics
- VW 1500cc H4 Powerplant
- 4-speed manual transmission
- No reported mechanical modifications
- The engine bay is clean and well-kept with no faults we can spot
- No reports of any issues with the car’s performance
Summary
Superbly kept, in a simply fabulous pearlescent livery, this cabriolet is in utterly superb fettle. The Karmann cabriolet is eminently desirable, and not nearly as common a sight as its hard-top counterparts. Not to be missed!
