The Appeal
Produced between 1967 and 1968, the TR5 is arguably the most desirable of the TR series, and with good reason. The TR5 was introduced with styling similar to the TR4, but stood head and shoulders above the previous generation, thanks to its all-new fuel-injected straight-six.
Today, the TR5 still stands as one of the greatest classic performance cars, boasting a fantastic power-to-weight ratio and superb handling for its time. With very few models produced throughout the TR5’s short production run, these roadsters are now incredibly rare, with fantastic examples such as this seldom seen on the global market.
If you are on the search for a truly beautiful sports car to enjoy in the sunshine, this rare Triumph roadster deserves to be at the very top of your list.

This Triumph TR5 is in superb condition, having been restored around 10 years ago and covering rather few miles since. Included with the vehicle is a photo-album containing comprehensive photographs of the restoration process, which shows superb attention to detail. The body-off restoration included a fully stripped-down body, fresh quality respray, interior overhaul, mechanical refresh and much more.
Throughout its time with the current owner, the vehicle has been treasured as part of a collection, venturing out only on dry sunny days, and then returning to a dry garage. The vehicle has also been expertly maintained by Heritage Classics of Middlesbrough, and now presents itself ready for the lucky new owner to enjoy.
The Interior
- Black refreshed interior
- Black carpeting throughout
- Moto-Lita 3-spoke, soft-touch "grippy" steering wheel
- Wooden dashboard
- Excellent condition
- USB ports fitted
- Hidden fuel cut-off switch
The interior of this TR5 is in excellent condition, having been refreshed as part of the vehicle’s restoration years ago. As the vehicle has been seldom used since buyers can expect to find absolutely minimal signs of use within the cabin. Both sleek black seats are in superb condition, with no noticeable signs of wear. In fitting with their lack of use, the seats also remain as comfortable as ever.
The interior shows off tidy black carpeting throughout which look brand new. Both door cards are in a similar condition, with only the driver’s side showing signs of use that will no doubt benefit from a quick dash of TLC.
As it wouldn’t quite be a classic British roadster without, this TR5 also features a desirable 3-Spoke Moto-Lita steering wheel and a wooden gear knob. Both are in excellent condition, showing very few signs of use in keeping with the car’s low mileage since restoration. Rounding out the wooden touches is the dashboard, which shows off both Smiths and Lucas gauges, displaying vital information. All gauges are in full working order and show few signs of age.

In the boot, you’ll find a vinyl hood cover, zip-split tonneau cover, jack and spare wheel in case of emergency. The boot also holds a Thor mallet and wooden tool used for adjusting the classic spinners fitted to each wheel.
The Exterior
- Excellent condition
- Resprayed example
- Mohair soft-top/hood
- Classic roadster styling
- Undersealed with transparent underseal
Those familiar with classic British roadsters will likely recognise the iconic front-end shared by the TR5 and earlier TR4 right away. The moulded bonnet styling that frames the headlights is a work of inspirational beauty, further adding to the charm of the vehicle. Sleek body lines lead to the rear, which reveals sharp rear quarter styling, and the tasteful taillight design seen with many British vehicles of the era.
Having been resprayed as part of its restoration 10 years ago, this TR5 looks excellent for its age, wearing its Old English White paintwork with pride. The paintwork itself shows few defects. Slight surface discolouration may also be noted towards the sills, but only under very close inspection. These minor defects certainly shouldn’t detract from the overall appearance and could very easily be rectified without much cost or effort at all.
All trim pieces, lights and brightwork follow suit, showing few signs of age. Certain chrome trim may benefit from either a dash of TLC or professional attention to return to a perfect shine but leaves this roadster in a charming, usable state.
All four fitted wire-spoke wheels and period-correct spinners are in great condition but would likely benefit from attention to achieve a perfect finish once more. The stylish wheels are wrapped in a welcome set of Vredestein Sprint Classic tyres, with plenty of tread for the lucky new owner to enjoy.
Overall, this Triumph TR5 is in excellent condition for its age, presenting the lucky new owner with a beautiful, yet usable classic roadster.
