The Appeal

Produced between 1965 and 1967, the TR4A set out to expand upon the newly styled TR4, utilizing the trusted Triumph roadster drivetrain, this time with independent rear suspension and a few engine tweaks. Partly thanks to its increased power over the TR4, the TR4A has proven rather popular over the years, and now comes highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts across the globe.
This particular example greatly benefits from a thorough restoration following its time in the US, and now stands in fantastic condition inside and out. This TR4A also boasts a restored interior, as well as a huge array of refurbished or new mechanical components. As such, the vehicle offers fault-free performance, and a collection-worthy finish to suit.
If you’re on the search for your next limelight-worthy collection piece, or simply fancy a treasured and restored example of one of Triumph’s finest creations, this 1968 TR4A is the car for you.

The History and Paperwork

  • Originally designated for the North American market, as a LHD model
  • Imported to the United Kingdom and registered for the road in 2019
  • Comprehensively restored between 2019, and 2023 by the current keeper
  • Includes a fantastic array of documentation, such as the heritage certificate, V5C document, and a huge selection of invoices detailing new parts, repairs and restoration work
  • Comes ready to enjoy with advisory-free MOT until the 23rd of March 2024
Like many of its brethren, this TR4A was originally designated for the US market, where it would spend the majority of its life before being imported to the United Kingdom. After arriving from Massachusetts in 2019, the vehicle cleared the NOVA and registration process, being assigned the registration ‘KCK 578F’ as seen today.

As the first and only UK owner of the vehicle, the current keeper decided this Triumph was overdue for its share of refurbishment, and commenced with an incredibly thorough restoration. The process included stripping the shell to bare metal, treating corrosion issues, fitting new metalwork, and of course, laying a fresh coat of paintwork. Originally being a LHD example, the vehicle was also converted to right-hand drive, receiving a huge array of interior, exterior and mechanical refurbishment alongside.
The sheer extent of the restoration work can be observed by perusing the incredible selection of paperwork present, which contains a huge array of invoices detailing parts and labour. Also included alongside the bountiful collection of invoices, is correspondence for import, NOVA and registration checks, along with a heritage certificate in the current keeper’s name, and the current V5C document.

The Interior

  • Retrimmed leather upholstery, with original walnut details
  • Features new carpeting, a new windscreen, a new mohair hood, and plenty more
  • Offers a very tidy finish throughout, showing minimal signs of wear or age
The cockpit of this stunning little Triumph is in fantastic overall condition, and greatly benefits from comprehensive restoration work much like the rest of the vehicle. As part of the four-year restoration process, the interior sports tidy new carpeting throughout, new leather crash bars, new leather door cards, and a new windscreen.
The vehicle was also fitted with a new mohair hood, which folds away as it should, offering a clear rear window, and watertight seal. When not in use, there’s also a brand-new tonneau cover to use, which clips into place exactly as it should.
Overall, the interior certainly leaves very little to fault, evidently reflecting minimal mileage since the vehicle’s restoration. Very few vehicles of this age feel quite as comfortable and fresh inside.

The Exterior

  • Extensively restored, with fresh paintwork and plenty of new components
  • Features a power-coated chassis, and a tidy underside
  • Equipped with a dazzling set of new 15” wire-spoke wheels shod in a new set of 4 tyres
  • New front spot lights
  • Features a new mohair hood and new tonneau cover
  • Offered in fantastic overall condition, with very little to fault
Originally finished in Triumph Racing Green, this TR4A was seemingly looking rather tired after its time in America, and would swiftly receive a tremendous amount of restoration work. As previously mentioned, the shell was stripped to bare metal and then treated to a host of repairs including new inner & outer sill sections, as well as repairs to the floorpan, seatbelt anchorage, inner wheel arch, and B-pillar.
Once repaired, the shell was then given a new look, receiving a fresh coat of red paintwork, as well as new LED headlights, LED bulbs all around, re-chromed bumpers, a new windscreen, a new mohair hood, and plenty more. As a result, the bodywork and accompanying trim details present themselves beautifully, with perhaps only minor blemishes to show, including the occasional chip, and minor wear to the wheel arch lips as pictured.
Accompanying the gleaming bodywork and shiny brightwork is a sublime set of wire-spoke wheels, with stainless spokes and chromed barrels. As you would perhaps expect given the vehicle’s minimal mileage since being restored, the wheels present themselves beautifully and come wrapped in a set of Rotalla tyres with plenty of tread to enjoy.

Overall, this TR4A offers a very respectable finish, reflecting skilled craftsmanship, and considerable expense spent. With only a few very minor defects noticeable upon very close inspection, this TR4A would no doubt make a superb show vehicle and will continue to shine as part of any collection.
