1968 Triumph Tiger 100 (500cc)

Highlights

• Full nut & bolt restoration
• Stunning condition
• Only 1,137 miles since total rebuild
• Registered historic vehicle

BACKGROUND

Triumph produced the T100 from 1959 to 1974, making improvements and updates through the years.
Powered by a vertical 500cc twin, by the standards of 1960’s motorcycles, the T100’s were acceptably quick, reliable and comfortable.
In 1967 the Tiger received a new frame and front forks, considerably improving handling and stability, helping the Tiger maintain its position as one of Triumph’s most popular smaller, mid-sized motorcycles.

HISTORY

This lovely classic T100 was completely restored to a very high standard, by a serious Triumph motorcycle collector, between January 2016 and October 2017.
A UK registered bike, it was completely stripped down to the frame, which was then repainted in traditional black.
The engine received a complete rebuild and a new wiring loom and carburettor were also fitted. The wheels, swinging arm and front forks were all stripped and rebuilt, brakes were relined and all new cables were fitted.
The restoration included the fitting of new handlebars, tyres, clocks, wheel bearings, duo horns, headlight, levers, chrome front and rear stainless mudguards, seat, upswept exhausts, rear shocks, footrests and rubbers, sourcing and using NOS parts wherever possible.
All the engine casings were cleaned and polished and the tank was cleaned and resprayed in the period colours of Mist Green and Off White, while the side panels were repainted and finished in black, with the correct decals and transfers applied.
The bike was fitted with electronic ignition to aid reliability and up-rated to a 12-volt electrical system.

PAPERWORK

The motorcycle is registered as an Historic Vehicle and as such is MOT and Road Tax exempt.
The V5 is present showing 9 previous owners but there is very little other history known, except that it is virtually new, having only done around 1,137 miles since its total restoration.
It should be noted that the V5 still has it recorded as being its original colour of blue and this should be changed to green.
The bike comes with two sets of keys.

CONDITION

The current owner has used the bike sparingly since buying the bike a few years ago as can be shown by the limited amount of miles put on the odometer since the full restoration.
Always garaged during his ownership the paintwork, chrome and in fact everything about this bike looks fantastic and is in great condition, making it an absolute gem.

MECHANICS

Apart from an oil and filter change after 500 and 1,000 miles, he has not had to do any servicing or repairs and reports that the bike is easy to start, rides great and sounds fantastic, creating great interest everywhere he goes.

THE APPEAL

To find a 1968 Triumph Tiger in such fabulous condition is a rare thing indeed these days.
There are some wonderful period features that really catch your eye, the chrome tank rack, the two-tone paintwork, the gear indicator, and the liberal use of chrome that really sets these bikes apart from most of the ones you see on the road today, and of course there’s the amazing sound of that 500cc engine.
There seems to be no let-up in the demand for these early British classic motorcycles and this is a trend that is sure to continue in the years to come providing the comfort of owning an appreciating asset that is great fun to own and ride.
