1968 Triumph T100T Daytona

Highlights

  • Fuel tank and tinwear repainted by Ace Classics, London
  • Triumph replacement engine fitted c.1973
  • Runs and rides very well with excellent road manners

The Appeal

Built to commemorate Triumph’s victory at the Daytona 200 in 1966, the 500cc T100T proved itself to be a really nimble machine, lighter and smaller than a Bonneville, which afforded the Daytona impressive handling.
Here we have a really well presented 1968 example which received a new engine from Triumph during the early 1970s. The vendor informs us that it is fantastic fun to ride and benefits from rebuilt suspension, electronic ignition and recent tyres.

The History and Paperwork

  • UK supplied T100T model
  • Continuation logbook
  • Current V5C present
  • Original owner’s manual in poor condition
  • Collection of old MOT certificates
  • Some old photographs and assorted invoices
  • Acquired by the vendor in 2014
  • Believed to have been with the previous owner since 1984
  • Dry stored by for many years by the previous owner
  • The mileage is believed to be genuine

The Condition

  • Fuel tank and tinwear repainted by Ace Classics, London
  • The seat was stripped and recovered by the vendor
  • The frame, controls and brightwork are apparently original and in good condition
  • The wheels present well although some may wish to rechrome them
  • New tyres recently fitted
  • There is some light patination to the chrome fittings but no corrosion
  • All the instrumentation functions well and looks smart
  • Period correct rear registration plate

The Mechanics

  • Triumph replacement engine fitted c.1973
  • New battery fitted in 2020
  • Pazon electronic ignition system
  • 500cc vertical twin engine largely untouched by the vendor
  • The vendor believes one of the exhaust pipes has likely been replaced
  • The front forks and rear shocks were stripped and fully rebuilt by the vendor
  • Rear swing arm and bushes were renewed by renowned Triumph specialist Rocker Box
  • Starts, runs and rides really well
  • Great handling bike that you can really move around on

Summary

Here we have a truly charming and eminently usable example of the now lesser seen Triumph Daytona T100T. Presented in partially restored condition, preserving many original features, this bike is a particularly fine specimen that deserves to be ridden on a regular basis.
