The Appeal

Porsche’s 917 was one of the wildest Can-Am racers ever built. Sleek styling and a tail that seemed to go on forever made these cars both devastatingly capable and utterly distinctive.

And that was just on the track. When America’s Elite Enterprise created the Laser 917 kit it gave kit-car home builders the chance to channel some of that jaw-dropping style into a road car. Despite being one of the most awe-inspiring evocations of the era, just 679 were built, most engineered using dependable and simple Beetle running gear.
