1968 MGC GT

Highlights

  • Good condition throughout
  • Ready to drive and enjoy
  • Low mileage for the age

The Appeal

The MG C built on the enormous success of the MGB and was intended as a replacement for the Healey 3000 using the excellent chassis of the MGB combined with a more powerful, larger straight six engine. However the MGC production run was very short lived with under 9,000 being built and only 4,457 being the GT variant, making them much less common than their predecessor.
The combination of classic MG design, extensive brightwork and red paint make for a fantastic looking car. An easy to drive classic British grand tourer in every sense, this MGC GT would make for an excellent first classic car, or a fine addition to any collection. With low mileage and in good condition throughout, it’s ready to drive and enjoy.

The History and Paperwork

  • A selection of historic MOT’s up to 2006 documenting the mileage
  • MOT exempt
  • Registered as a historic vehicle - tax exempt
  • MGC Handbook
  • A large selection of invoices for servicing and maintenance
  • For sale by a classic car trade specialist

The Interior

  • Good condition throughout
  • Moto-Lita wood and chrome steering wheel with MG centre boss
  • The black leatherette seats with red piping present well and offer a comfortable ride
  • The black carpets and condition throughout
  • The headlining presents very well
  • Modern stereo fitted with removable face-plate
  • The speaker on the passenger door is missing the grille
  • The door cards and trim all present very well
  • The dashboard has a few small marks and some patina, but presents well overall

The Exterior

  • Fantastic GT styling
  • Looks excellent finished in red
  • All four wheels in very good condition
  • Iconic MG chrome grille and surround present well and look superb
  • The badges, windows and light lenses all present well
  • The extensive brightwork generally presents well with some room for improvement as shown in the images
  • There are some small areas of bubbling to the paintwork as shown in the images, but these don’t detract from the overall very good impression that this car makes
  • One small area of window trim on the drivers door requires attention as can be seen in the images

The Mechanics

  • Excellent 2912cc straight six engine (shared with the Austin 3-Litre)
  • Starts, runs and idles well
  • The engine and engine bay both present very well and are clean and tidy throughout
  • The underside of the car appears to be  very good condition
  • Sounds fantastic with no unwanted noises
  • The vendor reports that the car drives exactly as it should; accelerating well, shifting smoothly and stopping quickly

Summary

The MGC GT represents the pinnacle of the series, benefitting from the much improved larger capacity engine as well as significant improvements to the running gear over its MGB predecessor.

Presenting well throughout and with low mileage, this GT looks fantastic and is ready to drive away and enjoy.
