The Appeal
Lest we forget that Lancia was one of the great automotive innovators during the mid-twentieth century. Not contempt to sit back and relax following the enormous success of the ground-breaking Aurelia, Lancia's engineers began work on an even better car to replace it.
The Flaminia was unveiled in 1957 and was to be yet another technological tour de force. The Aurelia's V6, transaxle and De Dion tube remained, but engine capacity was raised from 2.5 to 2.8-litres and the front suspension significantly upgraded to a double-wishbone coil spring setup with an anti-roll bar.

Lancia offered a range of body styles, including a beautiful coupé, bodied in aluminium over a lightweight ‘Superleggera’ frame by Carrozzeria Touring of Milan. And that's exactly what we have here. We're informed that this 1968 example was once owned by former Belgian president Guy Verhofstad. It's remarkably original, remaining in superbly preserved unrestored condition with a charming patina. Mechanically, all is said to be in superb order following a recent engine overhaul. You'll note this car is the ‘3C’, which stands for “carburatore” or “three carburettors”; that means there's a very respectable 150 horsepower on-tap.
If you're looking for a svelte '60s GT with character in abundance, you simply must consider this 1968 Lancia.
