1968 Lambretta SX150

Highlights

  • Very good-looking bike
  • Comprehensive rebuild since 2017 totalling £4,800
  • Many upgraded parts, rides better than original

The Appeal

One of the most iconic bike designs ever produced, the Lambretta is a scooter adored by all.

Wherever you are in the world, these models attract attention providing a little taste of Italy, even in the furthest reaches of the Siberian winter.

Despite travelling halfway around the world and back, this bike is in excellent condition.

An extensive restoration and upgrade mean it runs nigh on perfectly, and so it should after nearly £5,000 worth in invoices have gone into the bike. In fact, the current owner states it may even perform better than when it left the factory in 1968.

Visually, the bike is stunning finished in a blue and cream colour combination and a Union Jack-adorned backrest is the final touch in what is an amazing little scooter.

The Condition

  • Thorough rebuild in the past 5 years
  • Aftermarket stainless steel backrest
  • Very good condition

Since its importation into the UK, this 1968 Lambretta has been worked on extensively bringing it to the quality its in today.

In fact, the paintwork is all in very good condition bar a few chips and marks. The chrome fixtures also present very well with both trim and badges seemingly sparkling in the sunlight.

The blue and cream colour combination present beautifully compliments the sweet nature of this little bike. The colours continue on the seat which is also in excellent visual condition while the backrest featured on this example is an aftermarket addition.

The Union Jack adorning the fabric is an excellent touch of patriotism on this Italian-built scooter.

The wheels and tyres all look in fabulous shape, including the spare wheel fitted to the back rest. Underneath are slight patches of patina giving character to an otherwise spotless vehicle.

Elsewhere, the original battery shelf and air filter box are included with the bike, should the new owner wish to retrofit.

The Mechanics

  • Many upgraded parts
  • Rides better than original

With over £4,800 worth of recent invoices, this Lambretta has clearly been thoroughly restored and upgraded to a high standard. We are told by the owner that the scooter starts from cold on first or second kick, and runs smoothly with good acceleration.

Photos of the restoration and tuning show the level to which this bike has been worked on while a long list of replaced parts truly knock it in.

The owner mentions that most major engine components have been replaced over the past 5 years with work being undertaken by specialists Lambretta Upgrades (2017) and Chiselspeed Tuning (2021).

Everything from the clutch, gearbox, chain and flywheel have been replaced. The bike also has new brakes and cables. The entire 12v electronic system has seemingly been replaced from the wiring loom to the ignition switch while simple day-to-day items like the speedo and horn are new.

The suspension setup has also seen attention with new shocks and dampers, and the kick start is also new.

Courtesy of Chiselspeed Tuning, the bike has been retuned meaning it should perform better than an original model while a stainless-steel race tuned exhaust has been fitted accentuating the Lambretta’s iconic high-pitched, popping song.

Obviously with so much work done to the bike, it rides excellently with gears slotting into place with ease.

Summary

With £4,800 having gone into this Lambretta SX150 over the past 5 years, it certainly retains the so-called ‘SX Appeal’ with which it was marketed back in the 1960s.

A gorgeous specification and an uprated engine mean this must be one of the best examples around.
