The Appeal

The Series 2 E-Type brought together the hundreds of improvements gradually introduced to the model over previous years and added a healthy dose of extra comfort. With their mix of early aesthetics and later luxury, these mid-period E-Types are a popular choice with those who like to use and enjoy their beautiful cars.
This 1968 OTS is certainly beautiful. It is fresh from a comprehensive bodywork and trim restoration and mechanical check over by model specialists.  It is finished in the very popular combination of gunmetal grey metallic with burgundy red trim and roof. As you would expect, it is in exceptional condition.
It is also historically significant. It was built in the first few days of LHD OTS Series 2 production and is car number 44.
Here is a chance to buy a stunning E-Type in a great colour scheme. The condition is underlined by an advisory-free MOT to July 2025 and immediately visible in the photographs.

  • Burgundy roof fits very well with ‘as new’ finish and clear screen

  • Converted to RHD but otherwise factory standard car with Series 2 fittings
  • Tan boot trim in good condition
  • Lap belts and Astoll three spoke wood-rimmed wheel fitted
This must be about as close to a brand new Series 2 as it is possible to get. It is fresh from a comprehensive restoration by model specialists Dunchurch, whose expertise is evident from the photographs. The car has been converted to desirable European specification RHD - removing the Federal market lights, for example - and exhibits very good bodywork with smooth and flush panel fit particularly around the doors.
The Opalescent Gunmetal Grey paintwork and red trim combination is a very popular one and you can see why from the photos. The car is likely in better condition than the day it left the factory in autumn 1968. Across the interior and exterior this is an impressive car.

  • Most of the ancillaries have been replaced as shown in photos
  • Very tidy engine bay with evidence if extensive mechanical work
  • Underside indicates extensively renovated running gear
  • Detailed engine bay with highly presented engine and ancillaries
  • No reported running or driving issues
  • No mechanical or running gear advisories on current MOT
The Series 2 was the last E-Type to use the firm’s XK engine. This unit, honed for Le Mans, is both torquey, powerful and very durable with excellent parts supply. In this car it is mated to the later 4spd manual fully synchromesh gearbox, both being correct for this car. DVLA and JDHT data confirm the engine is matching numbers and therefore a correct specification E-Type XK engine.
The mechanicals and running gear were carefully checked and bench tested by Dunchurch Classic Cars during the recent renovation. The engine received a new head gasket and other minor fettling, but as it showed very good oil pressure a full rebuild was deemed unnecessary.  The gearbox was sent to a renowned specialist to be checked over, returning with new bearings before being refitted. Most of the engine ancillaries, including water pump, have been carefully replaced.

The evidence of that work is clear from the very tidy engine bay. We understand that the car is factory standard to European specification - including European rear axle ratios - except for the addition of a trio of Weber twin-choke carburettors.
The car has been road tested but otherwise barely used since completion so arrives with the buyer in excellent mechanical order with no known issues to rectify or address.
