The Appeal
The ultimate pony car? Perhaps even the ultimate American sports car. One thing is for sure, the Ford Mustang is one of the all time great American exports. Defining an era and sitting firmly at the top of the ranks as one of the most iconic automobiles made to date. It's certainly made a big impression since first exhibited at the 1964 World’s Fair.
Hailing from what is arguably the golden era of the model, the late 1960s, this 1968 is an eye catching example of Ford’s poster child, which provides an excellent opportunity to acquire a wonderfully presented, honest Mustang. Boasting some quality custom touches whilst retaining a good level of originality, it's certainly a good one, ready to bring endless enjoyment to its next devoted owner.
The History and Paperwork
- Manufactured 1968
- A US market car which, as we understand spent its time in Omaha Nebraska
- Imported into the UK in late 2013
- Fully UK registered with relevant DVLA paperwork and evidence present
- Previous Nebraska title also to hand
- Accompanied by a good selection of invoices for parts bought and servicing work undertaken on the car since its arrival in the UK
- Also comes with a Mustang parts retail catalogue
- Several previous MOT certificates
- Due to its age and historic status the Mustang is now tax and MOT exempt
- V5 registration document is present with the vehicle
The Interior
- High quality interior space, presenting with a good level of originality to it, along with some more desirable custom tweaks
- Predominantly finished in a wonderful period blue colour scheme
- Seating front and rear is in fine form, upholstered in a blue and black motif, with very little to be seen in terms of age or wear here
- Two matching two tone blue door panels in great order with impeccable chrome decorative trim and door furniture

- Interior trim and chrome appointments present very well throughout
- Dash panel is in great order, in a deep navy hue, it looks to have avoided the often found cracking or heavy UV damage

- Plush blue carpeting used throughout the cabin floor, presenting with some light staining and patina in places

The Exterior
- Simply glorious exterior styling, iconic by its very nature
- Finished in a more unusual but rather fitting teal hue with complimenting black and red stripes and embellishments
- In great overall aesthetic order, a well preserved and presented example
- Paintwork is of a good standard throughout, boasting a glorious metallic shine across the bodywork
- There are naturally some light areas of marking commensurate with age but this is certainly a quality example from an aesthetic perspective
- Contrasting black vinyl roof which has been installed well and fits smartly
- External chrome appointments and trim are in great order, some light patina can be seen on some pieces but the bulk of the trim is of a very high standard
- Glass work and badging present smartly
- The car proudly boasts custom 14” wheels at all four corners, with larger tyres at the rear to give a more aggressive stance
The Mechanics
- 298cu V8 engine resides under the bonnet
- Understood to be a desirable C code car
- Paired with a quality automatic transmission
- Engine has been fitted with some chromed head covers
- Presented in good clean overall mechanical order
- The car fires into life quickly though does need some slight motivation with the throttle to get settled into a comfortable idle
- Once on the go the Mustang provides a great overall drive, with good power delivery, smooth gear changes and a legendary V8 soundtrack
- Chrome engine strut brace also installed
- A new stainless exhaust system looks to be have been fitted to the car, hence a more notable engine soundtrack
- Underside appears clean and solid on inspection
Summary
There’s just something about a Mustang. An unrivalled level of cool one simply does not get with other cars. There can't be many among us who haven't idolised the idea of owning this little slice of the American dream, and the 1968 example we have here allows the perfect opportunity for just that.
Well presented aesthetically and mechanically, a desirable factory C-Code car with a great custom paint scheme and quality interior, it certainly ticks all the boxes to make it a great pony car, and must certainly be one of the more interesting quality examples available on the market today.
