The Appeal
Before Ford decided to simplify everything, it made cars like the Corsair, saloons that blended distinctive transatlantic aesthetics with clever engineering. All of which makes a Corsair a practical and stylish way to enjoy classic motoring with friends and family.
These cars are now thin on the ground though, which makes this lovely gold metallic 1.7L V4 Delux a pleasing find. It enjoyed a life in the warm climes of South Africa before arriving in the UK in 2021 where it has remained with its current keeper. The result is a tidy, solid and very usable car without the typical rot and deterioration that killed most of the UK Corsair population.
There are some marks around the car and the paintwork is not the best, but it is presentable and pleasingly unmodified. The beige interior is a particularly pleasant place to be with its array of original Corsair features.
Recent work has included a brake system overhaul, a new carburettor, a fuel tank sender and battery; There are also five new tyres.
This is a car that you could jump in and enjoy and immediately benefit from the recent work. There is scope to improve, but that could be delayed or whittled away at as you drive it.
