The Appeal
If classic cars could talk, they'd certainly have some stories to tell. This Citroën Ami is no exception. "This was to be my 'forever' car" - the vendor comments.
It's one of only two known UK-supplied right-hand drive examples of the Ami 6 Break left in existence. The vendor found the Ami in 2023 in Helsinki, Finland, and drove it home to the UK via the Balkans, Poland, Germany, and Holland in just four days!
It has been re-registered with its original UK registration number; the V5C shows just six previous keepers (plus two in Finland).
The vendor tells us:
"Purchased by me in August 2023, as this was the same as my first ever Citroen way back in 1973. She is one of only two known UK RHD examples of the Ami 6 Estate and I just 'had' to have her. Only now for sale as I have managed to acquire a saloon version of the Ami 6 which is even rarer as one of one!"
As the photographs show, this is an exceedingly smart example, likely finished to a higher standard than when it was new. The Ami has been restored several times; first in the late '70s/early '80s by Hugh Rhys Williams and then again during more recent years while in Finland. Since arriving back in the UK, the vendor entrusted the mechanicals to well-regarded Citroën specialist Sparrow Engineering, who carried out a significant engine overhaul, including re-profiling the cams and lightening the flywheel. The vendor notes that the car now accelerates better than ever and can maintain a 70 mph cruising speed on the motorway without issue.
If you're a Citroën collector or simply appreciate a quirky French classic, this Ami 6 Break is unrivalled on condition, provenance and rarity.
