1967 Triumph Spitfire MK3

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Restored example
  • Stunning condition throughout
  • A true collectors item

THE APPEAL

The Triumph Spitfire boasts an elegant aerodynamic design that commands attention from every angle. With its sleek curves, charming chrome accents and perky engine, this iconic roadster captures the essence of classic British motoring.
This particular Triumph Spitfire has been the subject of a meticulous restoration ensuring that it not only retains its original charm but exudes a level of quality that can only come from dedicated craftsmanship. Every detail has been attended to, from the paintwork to the plush upholstery within.

Benefitting from a triumph 2.0 litre, 6 cylinder engine, this car is a very relaxed cruiser with a lovely, smooth 6 cylinder exhaust note. Arguably this is the car Triumph should have built!

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK

  • Registered in 1963.
  • V5 present.
  • Recorded 55,038 miles.
  • Considerable expenditure over the years.
  • No advisories to mention on the last MOT in 2019.
  • Old MOT’s certificates are present.
  • File documenting parts purchased throughout the restoration process.
  • Purchased in 2007, it’s reported that very little was known of the cars history prior other than an engine conversion had been carried out.
  • The vehicle was in a sorry state so the owner carried out a full bodywork restoration which included removing the shell, stripping the chassis back and repainting the vehicle.
  • The body was shot blasted and heritage panels to replace the worn original panels.
  • A file documents the full expenditure and restoration process, with no expense being sparred.

THE INTERIOR

  • Cabin of the Triumph is in fairly good condition.
  • The interior has had no expense sparred with the full interior being overhauled.
  • Fresh light blue carpets grace the floor of the Spitfire.
  • The seats inside the cabin have been re-finished in Biscuit leather with contrasting Black piping and present really nicely.
  • Period correct, three-spoke Moto Lia steering wheel.
  • Door-cards have also been refreshed using Blue leather during the restoration and look fantastic with no signs of damage that we noticed.
  • Wood veneer dashboard that holds the instruments doesn’t look a day old.
  • The chrome bezels around the instruments equally look fantastic and really compliment the interior of the Spitfire.
  • Some of the switches below the dashboard are showing signs of patina but we feel this adds character to the vehicle.
  • Included with the car is the vinyl roof, which is free from rips and tears as well as the tonneau cover, which is in good condition.

THE EXTERIOR

  • Paintwork is in good condition and looks stunning in the sunlight.
  • Heritage panels have been refitted to the Spitfire ensuring that it remains period correct.
  • Panels replaced include; entire front end, rear wings, rear scuttle panel, inner wings, both the inner and outer sills, door skins and the floor pan.
  • As you would expect the external panels are free from dents and knocks.
  • As far as we could tell the majority of the panel gaps were even and the panels were largely straight. The only exception would be the boot-lid but we feel this is hardly a deal breaker.
  • The boot-lid is a fibreglass replacement as the vendor was advised to stay away from a metal one due to water ingress causing them to rust.
  • The front end is that found on MK2 GT6 due to the longer six cylinder engine that is fitted.
  • What small amount of chrome work the vehicle has is generally in tidy condition.
  • The lights around the vehicle present well with no signs of sun damage or cracking.
  • The glass and sills are in good condition and are holding up well considering the age of the vehicle.
  • Mini-lite alloy wheels are pristine and look fantastic on the Spitfire.
  • Xenon lights have been retro-fitted to the Spitfire.
  • The car comes with the hardtop that is finished in Triumph Sapphire Blue and sports a cream headlining.

THE MECHANICS

  • 2.0 Six cylinder engine that has been subject to specialist servicing, with the owner reporting that it runs with absolutely no faults.
  • The gearbox is a four-speed manual with no overdrive.
  • New parts include; reconditioned carbs
  • Radiator
  • Oil cooler
  • Distributor
  • Brake calliper's
  • Master cylinder
  • Oil catch tank
  • Spin-off oil filter conversion
  • Alloy rocker cover
  • Twin box, stainless steel Pheonix exhaust system including the manifold.
  • Suspension benefits include; Swing spring conversion kit
  • Trunnionless front suspension kit with adjustable upper wishbones.
  • New springs with custom spring rates and and shock absorbers all around.
  • The original fuse box has been retained for looks but internally uses a modern unit which has been fitted for safety and reliability reasons. This also allows for a fuel pump isolator as a security measure.

SUMMARY

A stunning example and a real labour of love. Whomever ends up with this Spitfire will of gotten an absolute steal. No stone has been left un-turned to ensure that visually and mechanically the Spitfire is the very best that it can be.
