1967 Triumph Spitfire Mk3

Highlights

  • Replacement engine fitted by the previous keeper around five years ago
  • Now equipped with fuel injection
  • Reportedly benefitted from comprehensive service history until declared SORN
  • Rare and attractive Royal Blue exterior

The Appeal

Triumph got a lot right with the Spitfire. The engineers started with tried and tested underpinnings - the excellent chassis and running gear from their Herald saloon. Styling was entrusted to Italian designer Michelotti and finally, the marketing department gave it a superb name. This Spitfire was - and is - an excellent sports car.

This pretty Mk3 example cuts quite the figure in the rare hue of Royal Blue. While it's offered as a non-running project, it's complete, the bodywork and chassis appear very solid overall and a replacement engine was fitted just five years ago by its previous keeper who worked in the Formula One industry.
We're assured that this vehicle has been meticulously cared for, with a comprehensive service history up until it was declared SORN. Stored in a dry barn, this Spitfire appears to have been preserved well and is now ready for a new owner to bring it back to life.

History and Paperwork

  • Registered in 1967
  • Comprehensive service history until declared SORN
  • Bought four years ago from a gentleman who worked in F1
  • Replacement engine installed five years ago by the previous keeper
  • Very low mileage since the new engine was installed
  • Stored covered and in a watertight barn
  • Selling to fund the vendor's wedding
  • Exempt from road tax and MOT testing

The Condition

  • All appears highly original and commendably complete throughout
  • Rare Royal Blue paintwork
  • While there is evidence of corrosion in places, this appears a straight and solid car overall
  • The brightwork looks quite smart with minimal pitting and no notable damage
  • The upholstery is very smart and while the seats have some small splits, this looks eminently repairable
  • The thick blue carpeting appears in good order with minimal wear
  • A portion of the original dealer decal is still present on the wooden dashboard fascia - a lovely touch
  • Modern Kenwood DIN stereo fitted
  • 12v cigarette lighter socket also installed
  • The roof lining sags slightly and shows some staining but nothing major
  • The original steering wheels seems in lovely shape with a light patina
  • The hard top roof looks in very good shape

The Mechanics

  • 1,296 cc l4
  • Replacement engine
  • Modern canister oil filter
  • Fuel injection added (original carburettors come with the vehicle also)
  • Currently offered in non-running order
  • We're informed that the engine currently fitted has covered very few miles
