The Appeal

The Royal Enfield Continental GT was the result of great development for Royal Enfield at the time. Boasting an overhead valve engine and a 5-speed gearbox, they had listened to feedback upon previous models and took action. 

This model was extremely popular with new riders of the time and also offered eye catching looks to match the sporty performance. It was reputedly the fastest 250cc motorcycle on sale at the time of its release. 

Thus, the Continental GT was very popular amongst racers all across Europe due to its lightweight, handling and punchy performance for its capacity.

This Continental GT is a real eyecatcher. It has been meticulously looked after and part restored where and when needed. All of the gauges work as should and are in great condition. This example benefits from the clip-on style handlebars and even possesses the Royal Enfield branded handlebar grips. 

There is also an AMP gauge located on the top of the front headlight. The windscreen offers great rider comfort whilst also complementing the overall silhouette. The fuel tank is also in excellent condition free from any dents. 

Furthermore, the seller informs us that the seat has been reupholstered true to the original style and offers for a very comfortable seat.

The Continental GT is a truly beautiful motorcycle. This Continental GT is certainly a fine example, painted in Clipper Cherry Red and Cream it really invites any keen motorcyclist in with its looks. This motorcycle has been extremely well cared for and looked after. 

The paintwork and brightwork are in excellent condition with only the smallest of scuffs on the paintwork and a very small dent on the exhaust, the chrome has not been scratched on this dent. The rubber fork covers and some of the rubber bushes under the fuel tank are starting to perish but still in working order.

The Mechanics

  • The fibreglass tank has been professionally renovated and relined inside enabling it to run on modern fuel

Boasting a recently rebuilt engine with parts sourced from Hitchcocks Motorcycles, this Continental GT starts via kickstart and rides as it should. This example also possesses the desirable cooling duct for the front drum brake, twin rear shocks and the revered Amal monobloc carburettor. 

The engine runs smoothly without any knocking, bangs or smoke. It is also absent from any leaks which can often be seen on models from this era. All breather, fuel and oil hoses are in good condition without any cracks or perishing. The wiring is all in working condition although slightly untidy in places. 

Summary

The Royal Enfield 250 Continental GT is a great motorcycle which evolved from the cafe racer days of the 1950's. This example is in excellent condition overall. 

It has evidently been cherished by its previous owners with an engine rebuild illustrating this care and affection. This example boasts low mileage on all of the original parts (under 2200km) with less than 100 miles on the rebuilt engine.
