The Appeal

Nobody can deny the ever constant popularity and charm of an MG. In all guises the MG has stood the test of time as the quintessentially British Classic Sports Car and the MGB has to be one of the most iconic. Whether this is your first foray into the world of classic motoring or you’re a seasoned pro, an MGB won’t disappoint. Easy to work on and with oodles of outlets and specialist engineering businesses out there to help keep your B on the road. This one has already enjoyed a lot of attention and comes ready to make the most of a twisty country road.

The History and Paperwork

  • Body restoration in 2018
  • Rebuilt engine by present owner in 2019
  • Lots of invoices showing other reparations
  • Last Mot’d 2020
  • Current V5c
  • MOT Exempt but with some previous certificates
The MGB is so popular that you may be spoilt for choice, but on that search you will undoubtedly find the condition of them to be very varied. You might be looking for one that resembles a pile of parts more than an actual car, whereas others will be looking for that concors ideal. Here’s one that you can jump into and enjoy and tinker with when the mood takes you. Restored in 2018 and then had an engine rebuild in 2019. While in the keep of the present owner lots of other little jobs have been done to provide a sturdy and reliable weekend classic. There’s lots of invoices and job sheets to show what effort has been taken and has the bonus of being periodically MOT tested.

The Interior

  • Re-upholstered seats
  • Re-carpeted at the time of restoration
  • Wood Rimmed Mota Lita steering wheel
  • Original instrumentation
  • Factory crackle finish dash
The cockpit of this little MG is just as you’d hope with all original fixtures and fitting and clear instruments. The seats have been tastefully recovered with a contrasting white piping and are both firm and comfortable. The carpet is in great condition and would appear to have been replaced at the time of the restoration. The door cards are in good condition and all the original furniture is still fitted. The instrumentation all seems clear to read and functions as it should, as does all the switchgear on the column and dashboard.

The Exterior

  • Traditional British Racing Green paintwork
  • Minimal scratches and blemishes
  • Good quality original chrome work
  • Original wire wheels
An iconic colour for an equally iconic car, what other colour could be more fitting than British Racing Green. The paintwork has a lovely shine to it and was clearly professionally applied during its restoration back in 2018. Being garaged and only used sparingly has also helped retain the lovely condition. There are only one or two minor blemishes, and perhaps the only one that would need attention is a scratch to the boot lid which has been touched in but not that successfully.

The chrome embellishments appear original as there is a delightful amount of patina that helps retain a sense of age. The wheels too are original with knock off centres and again are befitting the car’s age. The folding hood is serviceable and intact but would benefit from some minor attention. This is only due to the lack of use as the car is always dry stored and used very sparingly and the hood lives almost permanently lowered. The underside of the car appears in very good order with a copious amount of undersealed applied.

The Mechanics

  • Engine rebuild 2019
  • Paperwork showing extent of build
  • Twin SU Carbs
  • Gearbox replaced
  • Lots of incidental work undertaken
This lovely little B has had a lot of attention bestowed upon it, mostly to ensure its life is prolonged and to ensure that it is a reliable and enjoyable classic. The engine has been apart in 2018 and has had an extensive build to include a new camshaft and associated parts. The gearbox has been replaced, although it is unsure if this is a used unit or refurbished. A lot of wiring has been restored too including fuse box and other engine wiring, culminating in fitting electronic ignition. There is a paper trail showing that there has been an ongoing desire to sort those annoying loose ends and little jobs that develop on any classic and it has served to present us with a most desirable MG that is ready to serve.

Summary

What can you say about the MGB that hasn’t already been said? They are cute, fun, quintessentially British and easy to look after. So, why should you consider this one? Well, that’s simple, it’s a little belter. It has lots of period originality that holds on tightly to its age, but at the same time has been worked on to help make it a reliable classic that can still go the distance. Of course there will be the odd little job that you’d like to do, but that’s the point of owning a classic like this one. Every owner wants to make their own mark on it. This gracious little MGB is sturdy, reliable and ready to be enjoyed and deserves a long hard look.
