Highlights
- One off build
- Recently re-sprayed in Keswick Green
- Fuel injected 3.9 litre V8 engine
- Bikini roof
The Appeal
Just take a good look at the photos, how handsome is this beast.
Ideal for towing a boat down to the beach, summer jaunts to the local pub or even picking the kids up from school, they’d love it ! This Landy can do it all and with its retro styling look so cool in the process.
Previous owners have put a lot of effort into producing this one off special. Combining the ride characteristics of the later Land Rover 90 chassis and installing a V8 engine, makes for a great driving car with a soundtrack and performance to match.
It’s eye catching, it’s head turning but it’s not loud and brash, just subtle enough to blend in if that’s what you like to do.
You certainly won’t find another special like this one, so maybe now’s the time to treat yourself.
The History & Paperwork
- First registered on the 17th of October 1967 as a Series 2a Land Rover
- Registered as a Historic Vehicle, therefore road tax and Mot exempt
- There is a V5c registration document in the vendor’s name
- There is evidence of the vehicle being present in Ibiza during 2014 ( legal document regarding registration irregularities )
- Purchased from a collector in Ibiza in 2018 we believe, and subsequently brought back to the UK
- Purchased by the vendor in 2021. Now for sale due to planning difficulties with a prospective garage build
The Interior
- 3 seats across the front & 4 bench seats in the rear
- Line-X painted floor and rear pick up bed
- Slip on waterproof seat covers
Capable of seating 6 passengers plus the driver makes this Land Rover extremely flexible.
The bench seats in the rear were new just after the re-spray, fronts are original but could do with re-upholstering along with the door cards. Currently though, the front seats are fitted with practical slip-on seat covers which tidy things up.
The dash is an original L/R 90 item but is in need of some refurbishment or replacement although dials & gauges appear to be in working order and the gear lever rubber has perished but replacements are easy to obtain and fit.
Above the cabin is fitted a new canvas Bikini roof, offering shade from the sun or a little protection from the rain, no side windows are currently in place.
The Exterior
- Recent re-spray in Land Rover Keswick Green
- Swing out rear tailgate
- Rear step and tow bar
- LED lighting
- De-handled front doors
- Land Rover Wolf wheels
As can be seen from the pictures, a recent coat of Land Rover’s heritage colour Keswick Green has been professionally applied to the Series 2A body, but still retaining some of its original patina, in other words, it's been very well painted but not restored to a concours standard which in our opinion was the right way to go with this restoration.
It also has new Land Rover heavy duty Wolf wheels (painted to match) and tyres, a 5th wheel added to bonnet, a new grill, LED headlights, side & taillights, rear step and tow bar and a new galvanised front bumper.
The rear tailgate has been converted using L/R hinges to one that swings out rather than lies down, making passenger access far easier.
Front doors have been given the smooth custom look by removing the exterior handles, but you can easily open the doors by reaching for the handle inside the cabin.
Finishing off underneath the front is an aluminium steering guard just in case you happen to not see that rock when traversing off road, it also looks good too.
The Mechanics
Having spent a number of years in Ibiza with its dry all year-round climate, the chassis appear to be in very good condition.
The chassis , under bonnet and bulkhead are protected by a decent coating of underseal but the bulk head appears to be sound , as too does the chassis & outriggers.
Whilst in the Balearics, the then enthusiast owner fitted a 3.9l fuel injected V8 engine and 5 speed gearbox from a Range Rover. This started instantly and settled into a smooth tick over before being moved around easily for the photoshoot.
A quick blip of the throttle just lets you know that there’s something special under the bonnet waiting to be released. Recent works include a service along with new shock absorbers and springs all round.
Recently the seller has told us the clutch began slipping.

Summary
This is a very well executed hybrid special which just needs a little tidying and personalisation inside the cabin to finish off the wow factor.
She’s good looking, performs well, she’s practical, seats 7 people and above all gorgeous to drive with the throbbing Range Rover engine.
As enthusiasts the world over say “you can’t beat a V8 Mate!”
