The Appeal

Have you ever wondered what a Series 2A Land Rover looked like when it was brand new? If so, then we invite you to review the gallery of photographs below for this is as close as you’re likely to see in 2022.

First registered in Switzerland and imported to Italy in 1975, this 88 inch truck cab was treated to a very thorough restoration between 2005 and 2009 and little used since.
Starting with a sandblasted and freshly painted chassis, the seller worked with a local independent specialist to assess every part for originality and condition, replacing everything where necessary with parts sourced from premium suppliers in the UK.

The previous owner had already replaced the engine with a new old stock unit which was also checked and found to be in good health. If you want a classic Land Rover in the best possible condition, then get your bid in now.

This one has ‘show winner’ written all over it and, being a Land Rover, would surely also provide many more years of faithful service.

The History and Paperwork

  • First registered in Switzerland in 1967
  • Imported to Italy 1975
  • Previous owner installed what he described as a new old stock engine
  • Current owner carried out comprehensive restoration 2005-2009 with the help of a local independent specialist. Work included:
  • Sandblasted and painted chassis
  • All bare metal hot zinc galvanised and panels repainted
  • New electrical harness
  • Engine, gear box, transfer box, overdrive, both axles and steering box checked and found to be in full working order
  • Retrimmed interior
  • All items checked and replaced with original specification parts if necessary right down to imperial sundries, leather oil seals, sealed beam lights, etc., sourced from premium UK suppliers
  • The only non-original parts are parabolic springs for better comfort (original heavy duty ones are available)
  • Wheel rims on the car are not painted but another set of rims restored and painted with no tyres are included
  • Also included are some original spares as deep light switch, sealed main lights, position and rear lights cover (as per photo)
  • Selling due to the administrative overhead caused by too many classic Land Rovers
  • Some historic paperwork
  • Registered in Italy
  • Certificato di Revisione (Italian MOT equivalent) valid to Feb 2024
The vehicle also has authorisation from Land Rover to be converted to a 7-seater car and can be converted from a closed cab to a wagon cab, or convertible type, very rare for civil vehicles. Homologation certificate issued by Land Rover Italy is available.

The Interior

  • Fully retrimmed
  • New floor mats
  • Immaculate condition
Open the door to the truck cab and you’re presented with seats that still look like new, fresh rubber floor mats and a dashboard that’s clearly received a great deal of love and attention.

Fortunately the label is still in place to explain the function of the various levers on offer and, thanks to the considerable amount of effort that has gone into its restoration, everything works exactly as it should.
Not everything in the cabin is new but it all shows signs of having been thoroughly reviewed and refreshed.

The rear is also graced with a new floor mat and displays the only real sign of usage which is the slightly dimpled load area. The spare wheel lives under a fresh cover. Overall, it’s a delight inside.

The Exterior

  • Grey paintwork
  • Front mounted capstan winch
  • Kaki canvas 3/4 cover
Free from any bumps, scratches or marks, the bodywork is immaculate and it’s a joy to behold. If you’re looking for faults then the doors don't close perfectly flat to the surrounding panels due to newly fitted genuine rubber lip seals, riveted in accordance with original design, which means it’s just as it would have been when new.
Otherwise it’s just the wheels that show any signs of use, and there’s a freshly painted spare set included in the sale. Those that are currently fitted wear a set of tyres which all have good tread.
At the rear there’s a brand new canvas cover while underneath is the cleanest you’re likely to see on a Land Rover of any age.

There is a capstan winch mounted on the front bumper which is in full working order. In all, you’re unlikely to find another in this condition.

The Mechanics

  • 2.25 litre new old stock diesel engine
  • New exhaust
  • Parabolic springs for improved ride comfort
Under the bonnet is just as immaculate as the rest of the car, showing no leaks, and the engine runs very smoothly, as you would hope for a unit that is effectively like new.

The seller describes that this Land Rover drives just as it should with no untoward noises to report and good brakes.

There is also a set of spares included which are pictured in the photographs. What more could you need?
