The Appeal

Beloved of cops and robbers alike, the Jaguar Mk2 was one of the earliest high-performance saloons. Powered by Jaguar's brilliant DOHC straight-six 'XK' engine, it was properly quick by 1960s standards and moreover, it offered the epitome of comfort and style at a remarkably competitive price point.

This 1967 example has benefitted from an extensive restoration, which included a bare metal respray, engine rebuild, and numerous sensible upgrades. The car's Signal Red exterior paired with a Cream leather interior makes it a head-turner, while the upgraded electronic ignition and alternator ensure significantly improved reliability.
Since, then, it has enjoyed regular servicing with classic car specialists and there's a comprehensive history file detailing all of the work carried out. The car has covered less than 10,000 miles since its restoration.

For those seeking a Mk2 to use and enjoy, this example is without any doubt worthy of your consideration.

History and Paperwork

  • Acquired by the vendor in 2013 as a "barely running" stalled restoration
  • It spent 3 years undergoing restoration, first with Jaguar City then with Xtreme Jaguar Restorations LTD
  • The car started life as a 2.4 and in 1987, a 3.4 engine was fitted with manual / overdrive gearbox - the vendor believes it was about the same time that the  wire wheels were fitted
  • 9 former registered keepers according to DVLA records
  • Voluntarily MOT tested (recently expired)
  • Comprehensive restoration completed between 2013-2016
  • Regularly serviced by Westcott Garage, a well-regarded classic car specialist
  • Detailed invoices available for all work carried out
  • Last MOT advisories (August 2023) have reportedly been rectified
  • Less than 700 miles covered since the last service and MOT

The Condition

  • Original Mk 2 type bumpers
  • Chromed wire wheels fitted
  • Restoration work included a bare metal respray, new jacking points and interior retrim with new headlining, carpets, re-veneered woodwork
  • Bodywork presents well with only some rust bubbles on the lower edge of the n/s doors and boot-lid edge
  • Underside appears free from notable defects
  • Paint on the underside of the bonnet has begun to flake
  • Chrome strip around the rear screen needs re-fitting on the o/s
  • Slight pitting to the brightwork
  • Limited use since the restoration means the interior has little in the way of wear
  • Cream leather upholstery in very good condition with light patina to the front seats
  • Carpet, headlining, and woodwork are in smart order with minimal signs of use
  • Some areas of trim would benefit from tidying, such as around the bonnet release toggle - but there's certainly nothing especially noteworthy to report

The Mechanics

  • 3.4-litre DOHC XK straight-six
  • Four-speed manual plus overdrive
  • Upgraded with electronic ignition and alternator (negative earth)
  • New fuel pump fitted
  • Engine rebuild included crank regrind and new shells during the restoration
  • New brakes with uprated discs fitted
  • New radiator installed
  • Less than 10,000 miles since restoration
  • The vendor reports that the Jaguar drives very well with no apparent mechanical issues
  • All looks very original and clean under the bonnet
  • We're informed that all MOT advisories have since been attended to
