1967 Jaguar E-Type Series I FHC 4.2 Project

Highlights

  • Desirable factory specifications
  • A solid foundation for restoration
  • Largely complete, including the engine and drivetrain

The Appeal

Everyone’s entitled to their favourite E-Type, but you have to concede that a Series 1 Fixed-Head Coupé is the prettiest of them all. Just imagine the impact this car made when it was unveiled at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show. Some still claim it to be the best-looking car of all time - and it’s hard to argue otherwise. But it wasn’t all about aesthetics; the E-Type came equipped with the superb dual-overhead-cam XK straight-six, an engine that was enlarged during Series I production in order to offer greater torque in higher gears.
Here we have one of those coveted 4.2-litre Series I E-Types. This 1967 Fixed-Head Coupé is eminently worthy of restoration. It’s a very desirable car in any condition, and this one’s reportedly in solid order having already undergone some work to certain areas. The front subframe for example appears to have undergone some refurbishment, while the svelte coupé bodywork has been protected with a coat of grey primer.
It’s time for a new custodian to return this big cat to the road.

The History and Paperwork

  • Factory colour scheme: Opalescent Dark Green over Suede Green interior
  • Chassis number: 1E 34204

The Condition

  • Reportedly a solid body shell
  • Some corrosion is evident to the floors and sills, although these do currently not appear holed
  • The body appears quite straight overall, currently finished in grey primer
  • Complete with glass and headlamp covers
  • Chrome bumpers, wire wheels and trim in presentable order
  • Most of the interior is missing; stripped out in order to carry out any repairs to the floors and inner sills
  • Dashboard, instruments, switchgear and controls remain in the vehicle and appear in restorable order

The Mechanics

  • 4.2-litre XK straight-six
  • Four-speed manual gearbox
  • The engine compartment presents well and looks to have undergone some restoration work already
  • Currently not in running or driving order
  • Drive shaft needs to be installed as well as the brake callipers

We want a smooth transaction just as much as you do and as such we run all UK-registered cars and motorbikes for sale on Car & Classic through an online HPI check to verify that they show no insurance database markers for damage or theft, and have no finance owing, allowing you to bid with confidence.
✓ We also check whether vehicles are recorded as being written off as part of an insurance total loss claim at the time an advert is placed on Car & Classic and we helpfully provide write-off category labels (Cat C/D/S/N) for your assistance. However, the presence or absence of a label does not guarantee the vehicle’s status and it is always worthwhile carrying out your own  full vehicle history check before making an offer on a vehicle.
