1967 Jaguar E-Type Series I 4.2 2+2

***Vendor supplied images***

Highlights

  • Built by renowned specialists with painstaking attention to detail
  • Fully road legal - registered in 2020
  • Over £130,000 worth of documented work detailed with huge number of photos
  • A one off example with just 125 miles since completion

The Appeal

The words 'one off' and 'unmissable opportunity' tend to get bandied about rather more often than either of those concepts properly apply.  This car is different.  It fully delivers on both those criteria.

Anyone who has watched Martin Brundle pilot an E-Type around Goodwood will be fully sold on the idea of a racing version.  After all, alongside Brundle there is a rich tradition of competition E-Types, including the gorgeous Lightweights.

This 1967 Series 1 2+2 evokes those experiences but has the added advantage of being road legal - so you can enjoy whatever the road or track ahead looks like.  It’s not often that a competition-spec E-Type comes up on the open market, and even rarer that a road-registered, fully rebuilt and extensively upgraded example rears its head.

Its £130,000 restoration and transformation has been undertaken by a very high end classic car specialist - it was originally intended to be the owner's before he was tempted to sell it.  It is only back on the market - with the original builders - because the seller has set his sights on another classic.

Offering the unique opportunity to buy a virtually brand-new E-Type 2+2 with numerous enhancements that both improve the performance and usability of the car, this gorgeous Volcano Orange example has been finished to the highest standards and has evidently been a true ‘passion project’ for the builders - an opportunity too good to miss, and likely one that will never be repeated.

The History and Paperwork

  • Very high specification road-legal track car built by the vendor originally for personal use

  • Has covered just 125 miles since the restoration
  • Originally sold through Car & Classic in August 2023
  • Returned to the vendor by the buyer in part exchange for comprehensive classic car restoration project
  • Hence it is now available for sale again
  • Restoration work exceeded £130,000 and is carefully documented
  • Extensive build sheets and photographic records provided with car
Specification includes:

  • Polybushed suspension all round
  • Cooling system upgraded including aluminium radiator and electric fans
  • All glass replaced with Perspex to reduce weight
  • Triple X laminated windscreen and sliding side windows fitted
  • Dunlop knock-on race wheels and tyres
  • Standard seats replaced with competition-spec items and four point Sabelt harnesses

The Interior

  • All-new interior trimmed to race requirements
  • Ejector button fitted
  • Sliding side windows and other Perspex weight-saving panels
Inside, there is very little, if any, signs of wear, usage or ageing, largely thanks to the fact that this is a fully re-commissioned car, including the fitment of new seats, carpets and trim inside.
The carpets are removable for those extra weight-saving points on race day or during time trials, but are designed to add a level of comfort for those between-race journeys or longer-distance events.
With the entire interior having only around 200 miles of usage, it’s not too much of a stretch to say this is as close to ‘box fresh’ as you’ll find in an E-Type - there’s even dashboard-mounted timers for any classic time-trial events!

The Exterior

  • Completely refreshed exterior finished in stand-out orange
  • Three-stage pearl paint finish to very high standard
  • De-seamed and lights relocated to smooth the look
Completely refreshed, cleaned-up and de-seamed throughout, this may well be one of the best-looking S1 2+2 E-Types we’ve ever seen, but no doubt this is all enough to give a purist an aneurysm at the thought of all the customisation that has taken place.
The paintwork is a three-stage pearl product, which “has to be seen to be believed” such is the quality of the finish and depth of the paintwork. The first layer comprised of a silver base coat, which is then overlaid with a candy volcano orange paint, which forms the basis of what you’re seeing in front of you. Then, the third step is to ‘diamond burst’ the paintwork, which is what gives it such incredible depth and richness, with the process repeated all over again for the contrasting grey stripes.
As with the interior, there has barely been 200 miles recorded on the car since the restoration and rebuild was completed, so barring the odd stone chips here-and-there, the bodywork and paint on this E-Type is practically factory-fresh throughout, and there are certainly no marks to be seen on the Dunlop race wheels.

The Mechanics

  • Fully rebuilt XK 4.2litre engine
  • Superb specification as befits the high end restorer
  • 5spd manual gearbox to improve high speed cruising
Fully rebuilt, extensively upgraded and in rude health, this E-Type road racer is ready to be used in anger, though a few more running-in miles would likely be advisable.
Make no mistake, this is still a wonderfully usable example of the 2+2 FHC, with the vendor creating the car around the ethos of being a fantastically capable car on-track, but still comfortable and usable enough to drive home or take out on the odd Sunday morning blast.
Used as a promotional tool / build for the vendor and his company, this E-Type Competition recreation is in rude health throughout, and there are no faults known with the vehicle.
