The Appeal
For crossing continents, nothing beats an old-school hand-built GT car. The Aston Martin DB6 is just that.
At heart, it’s an uncompromising sports car, with a race-bred engine and kamm-tailed bodywork optimised to offer stability at speeds in excess of 150mph. In other respects, it’s a consummate cruiser, with an opulently appointed and practical cabin designed to transport four occupants in supreme comfort.
The DB6 is an iron fist in a velvet glove.
We can heartily recommend this exceedingly gorgeous 1967 example. Supplied new to the UK by HR Owen in right-hand drive, the DB6 later made its way to Australia where it would remain for some 33 years. During that time, it underwent a comprehensive restoration with Australia's leading Aston specialist Brooklands Classic Cars in Melbourne where it was also fitted with a replacement rebuilt engine from David R Lowe Engineering. It’s also undergone a five-speed manual gearbox conversion, which will surely appeal to more enthusiastic drivers. The vendor acquired the car in 2013 and repatriated it to the UK where it is now registered on its original plates once more.
It’s been exercised regularly and maintained properly since its restoration, undergoing copious work with highly respected marque specialists including Newlands Motors, Aston Chiltern and most recently, Oselli.
While it’s exempt from MOT testing due to its age, in August 2023 the vendor submitted the car for examination and this yielded an advisory-free pass.

The Condition
- ‘Fiesta Red’ paintwork over a black leather interior
- Equipped with a Webasto sunroof
- Factory optional air conditioning and headrests
- “Superleggerra” badges fitted
- The paint and chromework present well with only some signs of age
- The chrome wire wheels look to be in fantastic condition
- Superbly presented interior with barely any notable wear
DB6s are usually finished in more subdued colours, so it’s lovely to see this one in the striking period hue of ‘Fiesta Red’. The Webasto sunroof provides welcome light into the cabin, while factory-fitted air conditioning is the perfect accompaniment to long-distance cross-continental jaunts.
The paint and brightwork continue to present well, with minimal imperfections and few signs of age. As this car has been enjoyed exclusively in dry conditions and away from salty roads, it’s impeccably preserved throughout. The underside does not appear corroded or damaged, and we’re not informed of any known issues. The interior is barely worn besides a light patina to the seats. The leather upholstery looks supple throughout, the dashboard and controls present beautifully and that large wooden steering wheel looks fantastic.
The Mechanics
- 3,995 cc DOHC straight-six by Tadek Marek
- ZF five-speed manual gearbox fitted in place of the original automatic
- Original-looking and beautifully presented engine compartment
- Replacement rebuilt engine from David R Lowe Engineering fitted during the restoration
Luxurious they may be, but DB6s were bought by those who value dynamics as much as comfort. Thanks to its five-speed manual gearbox conversion, this example is especially engaging and the vendor informed us that it “drives and handles beautifully as you would expect from a powerful hand-built GT car”.
There are several invoices from the UK’s leading Aston Martin specialists for servicing work, most recently from Oselli where £6,239.57 was spent in September 2023 on a significant service and clutch overhaul. The last MOT test found no advisory items, adding further reassurance that this Aston Martin DB6 is ready to be enjoyed by its next custodian.
