The Appeal

Air-cooled Volkswagens are herd animals. You seldom meet the owner of a Beetle or Type 2 who doesn't have at least one other in their collection. And that's because these quirky German vehicles are addictive. Once you've got the bug, (pun intended), there's no going back...

This 1966 Type 2 Splitscreen is owned by a family of VW enthusiasts. The vendor's first car was a '64 Beetle; he and his wife have owned a succession of these cars since the age of seventeen. When their kids were young, they acquired this Splitscreen for family camping holidays. It has a fascinating history as a former Serbian church bus!

The vendor sent the bus, still complete with its bench seats, to Andy Litchfield at Vdub Campers who carried out a sympathetic restoration while Vaughn Green of CCR Auto Trim fitted out the inside with a period-correct camper interior.
It now sports a reconditioned 1.6-litre twin carb engine, upgraded front disc brakes, and a Creative Engineering steering rack, ensuring that this VW not only looks good but also performs reliably.
