1966 Morris 6 cwt Van

Guide Price - £10,000 - £15,000

Highlights

・Comprehensive restoration
・Low mileage
・Very clean

The Background

The Morris 6cwt van was based on the popular Morris saloon and traveller. It did however feature a separate chassis unlike the previous two and in 1953 when it was launched it very quickly became popular with small businesses and even large businesses that ran large fleets of vehicles, such as Royal Mail (General Post Office) for example.
To deal with the heavier loads the van and pick up variant had telescopic rear dampers and stiffer rear leaf springs accompanied by lower ratio differentials. Simple mechanically and with a decent load space for a small van they were widely used.

The van also has four brand new tyres and a reconditioned gearbox guaranteed until March 2022.

The History

This particular Morris was originally assembled in Rhodesia in 1966 and then made its way to South Africa.
In 2016, It underwent a comprehensive body of restoration and then sat in a private collection. The vehicle was imported to the UK only last year after the death of the collector/owner in South Africa.
Due to being in a collection, since being restored 5 years ago it has only covered about 150 miles.
The vehicle has been restored to totally standard specification except for the addition of an inline fuel filter under the vehicle.
The vehicle is little used by its current owner and under the current climate he has decided to part with it so someone else can enjoy it and hopefully use it.

The Paperwork

Due to the owner acquiring the vehicle from the sale of a deceased estate the only paperwork present is the V5.

The Interior

The interior has been restored and is in fantastic “as new” showroom condition, you will see from the photos that the restoration was comprehensive and its as clean under the mats/carpet as it is on top. The seats were re-upholstered and new carpets added as part of the restoration.

The Exterior

The body had a full respray as part of its body of restoration in 2016 and has since the vehicle has spent nearly all its time parked up in a collection or covered storage so the paint is still in excellent condition. There is one minor ding/blemish on the front lower grill to take note of and there is the odd stone chip coming through on the steel wheels but I am being incredibly picky, overall it’s very clean.
To note - The exterior vinyl decal on the side of the vehicle can be peeled off.

The Mechanics

We are told by the current owner that the car was mechanically restored (drive train , undercarriage etc) and everything was replaced with new or refurbished as part of the restoration in 2016. There may be some very light surface abrasion to the running gear where it has been laid up in storage.
There are no funny noises from the 948cc engine , no audible knocks or bangs and the car purrs like a sewing machine. If anything it would simply benefit from being driven more regularly.

The Appeal

If your into British classics especially on the commercial side then you will know this is probably one of the cleanest examples of the Morris Qtr Ton Van you can see outside of a museum and on the road.
Merely 5 years ago the previous owner lavished a lot of time, money and care on this vehicle to restore it to its former glory or possibly to an even better standard than it came out of the factory in 1966, so all of the hard work is done.
Since its restoration it has lived a pampered life and given how many of these remain in this condition it would suit to be in a collection. If however, you’d like to use it in anger as a commercial vehicle for your business it could easily be sign written and used. What better way to deliver your products to a customer than in a restored piece of British Commercial motoring history.
