The Appeal
Back when The Beatles and The Who were topping the charts, there was a subculture of young adults influenced by music and fashion and had a fondness for Italian scooters. The Mod era took hold of Britain, influencing the styling and interests of the younger generation for the best part of a decade. Arguably, the most recognised Mod item has to be both the Lambretta and Vespa scooter, many of which were personalised and modified to be unique to that rider and stand out from your usual two-wheeled transport.
Here we have a 1966 Lambretta Li Special LI150, a prime example of the eccentric style that many mod scooters showcased, it's in fantastic condition thanks to an undocumented restoration in 2015. Owned by a self-proclaimed enthusiast, this unique chapter of history has been kept stored for pretty much its entire post-restoration life and rather than continue to live unseen, the spectacular scooter is ready for its new lease of life.
The History and Paperwork
- 1966 build
- Genuine Italian frame and engine, see serial numbers in documentation
- imported in 2016 by the previous owner
- Purchased from Classic Lambretta
- Replaced speedometer during restoration
- Only 518km have been covered since
- Valid V5c present
The Condition
- Candy apple red
- Very good condition
- Equipped with multiple era accessories
There is nothing quite like a Mod influenced Lambretta, the term head-turning gets thrown around in the automotive world but in this case, there’s nothing else we can think of that accurately describes this two-wheeled piece of art.
The vehicle was restored prior to the vendor's ownership, likely by Classic Lambretta where it was purchased from. The choice of colour is wonderful, especially the candy apple red which carries a little sparkle and is especially gorgeous in the sunshine. The condition throughout is very good, with no signs of anything untoward.

The Mechanics
- Replacement 175cc engine fitted
- Two-Stroke
- Speed replaced during 2015 restoration
During our visit, the Lambretta was not started. But we are assured it is in fit and in fine operating health. The original 148cc has been replaced by the current vendor and is now equipped with the more powerful 175cc variant. The power produced may not be to MotoGP standards but the joy that’s provided when riding these charmers isn’t measured on a 0-60 scale.
Summary
A unique era showcased in a unique way, the Mod-influenced scooters are a reminder of growing up in the 60s, watching hundreds of these flock to seaside towns. It was a time of expression, of change and the Lambretta was an important tool for the young to express themselves. This scooter looks fantastic and is sure to create a crowd plus create intrigue with today's young generation. For most of us, it’s a reminder of our younger years and the good ol’ days.
