1966 Ford Mustang Coupe (LHD)

Highlights

  • Charming original aesthetic
  • Great mechanical health
  • Desirable 5-speed manual

The Appeal

The embodiment of American Muscle, the Musang truly needs no introduction when it comes to this kind of thing. The Pony car that made everyone with engine oil infused blood crave the ownership of one. Upon its introduction to the market, Ford offered a plethora of options spread across different body styles, and despite the endless appeal they managed to keep a fair asking price upon first sale. As time has gone on though, the demand for these Mustangs has risen and it has become increasingly more difficult to find one in good shape that has survived the decades, therefore have become an increasingly popular investment for petrolheads.
This particular example was imported to the UK back in 2010 and has been well taken care of since, being garaged and under cover since its introduction to UK weather. It has had a fair amount of mechanical work undertaken both by the current keeper and the previous keeper, ensuring that the vehicle is up to par in terms of mechanical functionality, while retaining a charming original patina throughout.

The History and Paperwork

  • Originally registered on the 1st of January 1966
  • Imported from the United States to the UK on the 14 of June 2010
  • MOT’d back in 2010 and 2011 to ensure roadworthiness of the vehicle after import
  • MOT and road tax exempt
  • Good paperwork file with around £5,000 worth of invoices
  • Great mechanical health thanks to a plethora of work undertaken by the owner and garages
  • Subtle and welcome performance upgrades
  • Garage kept throughout a previous ownership, and kept under cover with the current owner to hide it from the UK weather

The Interior

  • Original interior is very nicely presented
  • Red vinyl upholstery appears to be free from any unwelcome damage and presents very little signs of use
  • New gauges have been fitted to the dash and are in lovely condition
  • Original dash appears to have no damage or cracks throughout
  • Brightwork throughout appears to be in excellent condition with gentle signs of age
  • Three-spoke steering wheel is well maintained with no damage to either the metal work or the leather rim
  • Red seat belts well presented with Mustang buckles
  • Floor carpets appear to be in great shape with only slight sun-dye in the centre of the front seats
  • Door cards both well maintained, the driver side door has some shoe scuffs and on the passenger side, the vinyl inlay appears to be coming away from its mounting points in areas
  • Rear seats appear almost unused with no signs of any damage or stitching problems
  • Radio shows gentle hints of age
  • Rear view mirror shows heavy corrosion
  • Headlining appears to be well kept with no sagging areas or rips

The Exterior

  • Unapologetically original exterior, showing hints of age and patina throughout in a charming manner
  • Red paintwork would require some attention as it shows signs of blistering and fading, with some patches of missing paint which have been patched in, notably on the upper front drivers wing and on the front of the bonnet
  • Rear boot lit exhibits the same bubbling, and some chips missing from the paint on the panel between the rear lights
  • Brightwork bumpers appear to be free of dents however show some signs of pitting, and the rear bumper bar does have some scratches present
  • Original wheels do show their signs of age, especially the centre faces as they show signs of corrosion, however the polished outer lips are nicer and require less attention
  • Mustang and 302 side emblems all present
  • Gentle signs of corrosion on some body panels but nothing that would be deemed as excessive
  • Front and rear lights appear to be in good condition and function as you would expect them to
  • Underside appears all original and in good condition with only minor signs of corrosion

The Mechanics

  • Reportedly excellent mechanical health with a list of parts replaced throughout its UK ownerships
  • 302ci engine D20E
  • 351 cylinder heads
  • T-5 Borg Warner transmission which is reported to be in good health with no unwelcome grinds or knocks when rowing through the gears
  • Edelbrock performer RPM intake manifold
  • 570 CFM Street Avenger Holley carburettor
  • Thrush exhaust with long tube headers
  • HEI distributor fitted with 9mm ignition leads
  • New harmonic balancer and new alternator
  • New water pump, new crankshaft seal
  • Recently serviced with 20w50 oil and new autolite spark plugs
  • Stainless dual fuel hose
  • Brake system reportedly in good health with no grinding

Summary

A handsome and vastly original example of the world-loved pony car, this would make an outstanding addition to anyone's garage who is on the lookout for either an original example or someone who is looking to take on an easy restoration - this would make an amazing starting point thanks to the great mechanical workings which wouldn’t need attention.
