THE APPEAL

When it debuted in 1964, the Ford Mustang sent shockwaves through the British car industry, which had enjoyed years of sales success with sports car exports.

The ‘Pony Car’ was America’s own performance icon and the precursor to an amazing muscle car era.
This one is an early V8, dating from 1966.  It comes with Ford’s 289 cubic inch engine, as found in other such icons as the Thunderbird and the AC Cobra.
Imported in 2016, the current owner has loved and enjoyed the car for the past six years and says that selling the car will be a huge wrench, but with an imminent overseas house move, it has to go.

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK

 • All NOVA papers and import paperwork complete
 • Originally registered in Flat Rock, Michigan
 • Copy of original pink slip
 • Has a full UK V5C
The Mustang spent most of its life in Michigan before being imported to the UK by its one previous British owner in 2015.

The vendor bought it the following year as he’s wanted one since his childhood and has absolutely adored owning it. It has a UK V5C and a few invoices, most recently for a full service and new shock absorbers earlier this year.

THE INTERIOR

 • Original blue vinyl seats
 • Five-dial dash
 • Three-spoke sports steering wheel
 • Superbly presented
This is a wonderful car to sit in, with a sporty five-dial dash displaying fuel, oil pressure, temperature and battery voltage.
The blue vinyl seats are in excellent order, as are the door cards and carpets, while unusually for a Mustang of this vintage there is no sun damage to the dashboard, largely because the car spent a lot of its time in the northern states.
It  has a gorgeous three-spoke sports steering wheel and its original pattern boot mat.

It’s in great overall condition and has recently had the driver’s seat base repaired, so the vinyl covering in the centre section is a slightly different (but barely noticeable) shade.

It also comes with the correct Mustang dealer-fit floor mats.

THE EXTERIOR

 • Rare Tahoe Turquoise metallic
 • Steel sports wheels
 • Totally original, unmodified specification
 • Beautifully presented
This is an amazing car to look at and it sits just right on its optional black and chrome sports wheels. The paintwork and chrome are excellent and all of the trim is present and correct.
There are no signs of any visible rust, the paint finish is superb and it’s ready to show – a great looking car that looks stunning from every angle.

THE MECHANICS

 • 289 ci V8 in great running order
 • Three-speed automatic
 • Beautifully presented under the bonnet
The 289 ci V8 is a Ford stalwart and it looks and sounds excellent, matched to a three-speed automatic transmission.
The V8 fires up on the first twist of the key and makes the whole car throb on its axles with the promise of the power it might deliver.
The vendor reports that the car drives very well indeed, with no known faults, and he has personally covered a few thousand miles in it using it for shows and events, thus proving its reliability.

SUMMARY

This is a wonderful example of the earliest type of V8 Mustang, in hardtop coupé 2+2 form, which was the most popular Mustang variant of its vintage.
It looks absolutely amazing and is presented in brilliant order, while all of the import duties and registration paperwork have been done meaning it’s ready for its next owner to jump in and enjoy.
It’s an icon, in lovely order, a great colour and with a fabulous interior.

A great car to enjoy and show - and an equally brilliant investment opportunity.
