The Appeal

“Win on Sunday, sell on Monday”.

Originating in the 1950s, this phrase was embraced by manufacturers the world over, turning to motorsport to showcase the performance potential of their road cars. Ford of Great Britain did just that with several of its core models, perhaps most successfully with the Cortina which excelled in touring car, rallycross, long-distance regularity events and just about every form of competition in between. The three-door MkI bodyshell was small and light, a perfect candidate for receiving a potent engine and trick suspension as it did with the twin-cam-powered Lotus and Ford’s homegrown Kent engine in 1,498cc 78bhp form.
We’re delighted to offer a prime example of the latter, a 1966 Cortina GT which has been restored to an exemplary standard, since residing in an impressive private collection. The Cortina presents impeccably throughout and has been finished in the evocative Lotus Cortina colours. It’s offered with a large history file containing numerous invoices and various documents from its past life in Finland. The car has been serviced in readiness for sale and we’re informed that it is to come with a fresh MOT pr peace of mind.
It’s rare to find a MkI Cortina in anywhere near such lovely condition as this one.
