The Attractions

This 356 is truly a remarkable specimen. Coming from the Forgione collection of classic cars, it was given to Mr Forgione in his early twenties by his father while studying in the USA. He brought it back with him to Italy and continued to drive it frequently until he was 80 years old. He was its sole owner.
The car was built in the last year of production of the 356 - when the 911 had already been introduced - and was produced for Porsche by Reutter. It shows 'SC' badges but this car is a 1964 'C' with a 75bhp engine and twin Solex carburettors.
The car was restored five years ago, and has been repainted in Mr Forgione's favourite shade of red. This car is in very good condition, and is a very efficient car that reflects its regular use as a reliable everyday car.

History and Documentation

  • Produced by Reutter in 1964
  • Chassis number 128475 corresponds to a 356C produced in early 1965
  • Car destined for the US market and purchased new by the current owner
  • Imported into Italy when the current owner returned home
  • Used regularly by Mr. Forgione from the age of 20 until the age of 80
  • Always loved this car and used it as an everyday car even in Rome
  • Repainted five years ago to correct minor marks caused by city driving
  • Described as very reliable by the seller
  • Registration papers
  • Badged as a SC but this car is a 1964 C with a 1962 75bhp B engine

Condition

  • Restored five years ago in a bright red colour with good finish
  • The bodywork presents itself very well, with no obvious signs of deterioration
  • Exterior chrome in good condition with many original finishes
  • Given the originality, some slight traces of oxidation are visible on the chrome parts
  • Car true to factory specification with air horn mounted under front bumper
  • Black vinyl upholstered interior with small rear seats and trim in good shape
  • Some light signs of use and ageing are visible inside, not unpleasant
  • Visible marks include slight stains on the original headliner
  • Original radio, controls and instruments in good condition
  • Wooden three-spoke steering wheel
  • The underbody presents itself very well and seems solid
Mr Forgione particularly liked red, after all it is a perfect colour for sports cars. This car was repainted to a very good standard in a bright red five years ago, and the paint is still in very good condition. The bodywork and underbody look equally well maintained.
Inside, this is a clean and well-maintained car that is largely original - including the radio and headlining - and shows hardly any signs of regular use. Presumably these slight traces of use add further character to this extraordinary car that belonged to a single owner.

The Mechanics

  • Air-cooled 4-cylinder Type 616 engine of 1,600 cm³
  • Engine replaced during restoration with a 1962 B 75bhp engine
  • 4-speed manual gearbox
  • Two carburettors
  • Original tool kit
  • SC badges
  • Used regularly almost every day by Mr. Forgione for over 60 years
  • Well-kept in the Forgione collection
The SC was the last and most powerful version of the 356. This car is one of the last 356s produced and has SC badges. However, it is a 1964-produced 356C. The engine was replaced during restoration with a 1962 unit from a B, producing 75bhp.
But this is probably irrelevant. The main appeal of this car is that it is a car with correct serial numbers, owned by a single owner, and that it has been regularly used and carefully maintained during the 60 years it has been owned by Mr Forgione. We are told that he loved this car so much that he drove it almost every week around Rome.
The car comes to market in good condition, is reliable, has no known problems and drives as it should.
