The Appeal
The 356 is perhaps the purest iteration of Ferdinand’s vision of a light, nimble, small-engined sports car that could run rings around much bigger rivals. All good reasons to favour it over its later, better-known sibling.
The final cars - known as the 356 ‘C’ - got more power and, crucially, better stopping ability thanks to discs all round. But the aesthetics were virtually unchanged, meaning that these final customers got the same achingly beautiful sports car.
Demand for good 356s means that the market is flush with restored cars that form part of many high end collections. The opportunity to acquire a 356 that you can bespoke to your own specific requirements comes along fast less often. Here is exactly that, an exceptionally rare unrestored, complete and matching numbers 356C that is ready for the buyer to complete to their exact requirements.
The car is a LHD USA market car that previously carried Pennsylvania title. It has NOVA documents so can be UK registered on completion.

You are not so much buying a 356 restoration project as a blank canvas here. This car is the restorer’s ‘Holy Grail’ - a matching numbers, complete car that can be bespoked to the buyer’s exact specification.
The seller is a specialist in these cars and can, if required, guide the buyer through the restoration process.
The Mechanics
- 1,600cc air cooled flat four 356C engine
- 4spd manual gearbox
- 356C model with disc brakes all round
- We are told the car is matching numbers
- Will require full mechanical and running gear restoration
- Engine and running gear are untested
The final version of Porsche’s pretty 356 got more power and, thankfully, better brakes in the form of disc brakes all round. Those changes make these later ‘C’ cars particularly desirable amongst collectors. All good reasons to choose this matching numbers car as a starting point for your renovation.
The car was built by Reutter in 1964 and first registered in 1965 in the USA. The VDO odometer shows 70,301 miles but this is not verified.
The car is sold as a ‘non runner’ and buyers should assume a full mechanical and running gear restoration will be required.
