The Appeal
The W111 ushered in Mercedes-Benz’ ‘Imperial Phase’ thanks to crisp Paul Bracq styling to complement the unwavering commitment to the highest engineering ideals.
While the myriad of W111 saloons catered for everyone from cab drivers to captains of industry, the cabriolet aimed at an altogether more select and focussed audience. These were cars for barrelling down to the South of France or whisking off to a weekend retreat. Handsome, powerful, spacious and very high quality were their calling cards.
This 1965 220SE retains every element of that original style. Beautifully finished in dark metallic blue with matching interior, it shows why these cars are so revered and highly valued today. A comprehensive independent assessment and valuation accompanies the car and confirms what the photographs show – this is a superb example of a magnificent car.

The Mechanics

- Mechanicals all rated as ‘good’ by independent inspection
The joy of the 220SE is that it doesn’t just look good, it goes well too. That is thanks to Mercedes-Benz’ advanced, fuel injected M127 straight six engine that delivers a healthy 120bhp.
Although we did not have access to the service and maintenance records at the time of writing, the independent inspection includes an assessment of the mechanicals, including with the engine running. All are rated highly by that inspection.
