The Appeal
Oft-heralded as one of the best - and certainly prettiest - cars that Mercedes-Benz ever built, the W113 'Pagoda' continues to really stir something in enthusiasts. Subtley curvy, sublimely charismatic on the road and with rock-solid underpinnings, the Pagoda really brought Paul Bracq's magic to the masses and set up the next thirty years of Merecedes-Benz's market-leading success.
To this day, a good example not only attracts plenty of attention - it demands it. These cars hold a very commanding presence for their small stature, and you'll regularly see them attracting crowds at car shows, or cutting a very sophisticated edge on the modern road network.
This beautiful car was purchased in 2018 and imported from Monaco. Since arriving on British soil, it's been through a complete ground-up restoration in 2019/20, largely undertaken by Hightone Restorations, with tuning by the ever-well-reputed SL Shop.
We understand this has been to the tune of tens of thousands of pounds, and also included the fitting of a larger engine - the 280SL's M130 6-cylinder engine, providing some 168 hp. As a result it's running better-than-factory, and we understand has proven a very capable, reliable classic for the vendor. We've no doubt it's going to be a big hit at auction.
