The Appeal
When the Series I Quattroporte first launched in 1963, there was very little else like it on the road. It was one of the first cars to blur the lines between supercar and saloon - a balance it continues to strike to this day.
Now's the time to look for a restoration project and what better car to choose than this rare Series I Maserati Quattroporte from 1965. As the photographs show, it's seen better days, but this car has good bones, offered in running order, appearing largely complete and sound overall.
The vendor recounts the following story:
"Bought by Antonio Ferreira de Almeida, a car dealer from Lisbon, sometime after the Portuguese Revolution 1974, when ownership of an expensive car wasn’t such a good idea anymore. De Almeida bought hundreds of cars. The ones in good condition were kept in various locations all over Lisbon. From 1992 on, the cars in need of work were stored in the barn of an orange plantation, some 100 km away from Lisbon. 2007 he visited his barn with a fellow enthusiast who took some pictures which he put up in the internet. Then the hype started: sensational barn find, etc, with many completely nonsensical stories around it. The fact is that Ferreira de Almeida started to sell off most of his 400 cars. 107. 474. was for a while listed by someone in Spain, but the car has probably never left Portugal, as it was still for sale there."
Now in the Netherlands, it's time for someone to restore this fabulous executive GT.
