1965 Land Rover Series IIA

**Please note that these photographs have been supplied by the vendor**

  • Sympathetically refurbished whilst maintaining its original character
  • Equipped with an Exmoor Trim canvas tilt
  • Engine and gearbox reportedly rebuilt in 2015 by the previous owner
  • Equipped with overdrive
  • Presented in very good overall condition

The Appeal

Land Rovers are a great choice for those who want to use their classics. They’re tough, relatively simple to maintain and offer a driving experience quite unlike just about everything else on the road.
This 1965 Series IIA benefits from a previous sympathetic restoration and has apparently only covered around 2,000 miles in present ownership - reportedly all in dry weather. It has the added versatility of a canvas tilt, allowing it to be transformed into a full convertible and even the windscreen will fold down if so desired.
If you’re on the lookout for a Land Rover that’s ready to be enjoyed, then look no further.

The History and Paperwork

  • In current ownership since November 2020
  • Used sparingly and apparently only in dry weather
  • We’re informed that it is regularly serviced by the vendor
  • V5C present
  • Exempt from road tax and MOT testing
  • Comprehensively refurbished in 2015
  • Accompanied by a number of invoices for parts and the refurbishment work
  • Collection of old MOT certificates and tax discs present
  • We’re informed that only around 3,000 miles has been covered since the refurbishment

The Interior

  • Good condition throughout
  • Rear bench seat added to the offside with seatbelt
  • Galvanised soft top frame
  • Land Rover Series rubber floor mats in the front footwells
  • The front seats are in good condition overall, with a split seam on the driver’s seat squab
  • Smiths round heater in good working order
  • All of the gauges and controls reportedly work as they should
  • An additional instrument panel has been added but could be removed quite easily
  • Attractive patination to the controls, but no excessive wear

The Exterior

  • Blue paintwork with a matte finish which was apparently applied back in 2015
  • Retains the characterful dents and dings it has accused through its life
  • We’re informed that the chassis and bulkhead are original and restored
  • Exmoor Trim canvas tilt with fume curtain in fantastic condition as it is nearly new
  • The bodywork looks to be fairly straight for a Land Rover of this age and the paint looks smart, with just a  few blemishes here and there
  • The chassis looks smart with no evidence of corrosion on show and the vendor informs us some restoration was carried out to it
  • The vendor replaced the door tops last year
  • All five wheels present well and are reportedly from a Discovery, which alters the stance
  • The vendor informs us that there are three original Series wheels with the car and these require repainting
  • The galvanised front bumper and cappings present well
  • The light lenses, trim, windows and badges all look to be in good order
  • Equipped with a tow bar

The Mechanics

  • 2.25-litre four-cylinder petrol engine
  • Four-speed manual gearbox with selectable low range and four-wheel drive
  • Extensive mechanical restoration carried out by MPB 4x4
  • The leaf springs and shock absorbers were replaced
  • Weber carburetor upgrade with matching air filter replacing the oil bath item
  • The fittings for the original air filter have been retained should the next owner wish to reinstate it
  • The vendor reports that it starts easily and idles well
  • No unwanted noises reported
  • It is said to drive as it should; accelerating well, shifting smoothly and stopping efficiently
  • The wiper motors were replaced as part of the restoration and apparently work well

Summary

This Series IIA looks to be a great example and we enjoy the versatility afforded by the canvas tilt. Having been extensively refurbished in the past and looked after very well ever since, we can certainly recommend this smart classic Land Rover.
