1965 Jaguar MK2 Manual

Highlights

  • UK-supplied car, with 27 years spent in dry US states
  • A solid and well-cared-for example with a recent mechanical spruce up
  • Featured in a forthcoming Netflix TV show

The Appeal

Replacing the Jaguar MK1 in 1959 was never going to be easy, yet the MK2 was a genuine all-round improvement, not just in the styling department, but its improved visibility, uprated interior, as well as a wider track to improve handling. It gave the car a whole new dimension and set it up for Jaguars most iconic period of its illustrious history. Fitted with one of a series of trusted engines, the 3.4-litre version was often considered the best all-rounder and actually wasn’t far off the performance stakes compared to the 3.8-litre, unless you needed that extra oomph to escape the clutches of the police…
This 1965 UK spec car spent its first 20 or so years in the UK, then exported to the warmer climes of the US, where it remained for the next 27 years. It was imported back to the UK in 2021, where it was used on a Netflix TV show. Treated to an MOT, as well as a general mechanical spruce up to ensure it remained usable and reliable, the car also shows signs of being well looked after prior to its appearance on the screen. It has also recently been subject to a further light mechanical overhaul and service as well as an interior spruce-up. This solid example of a 3.4-litre manual with overdrive runs well and offers a pleasing presentation.

Summary

The Jaguar MK2 represents the trusted values that Jaguar prided itself on, with a perfect balance of performance and luxury. Those two factors, along with a plentiful parts supply, thriving owners clubs and that unmistakable styling, also goes hand in hand with the car's slightly bad-boy image and motor sporting heritage to help keep that demand buoyant. This well-sorted car has plenty of evidence that it has been well looked after and has a solid foundation if you wanted to take the car up to the next stage.
