The Appeal
Recently fully restored this Zephyr Six is in wonderful condition and ready for you to get in and go for a drive. There are some pictures from before the restoration so you can see the amount of love that has been put into the process of bringing this Zephyr back to life.
You can now benefit from all of this hard work as all you need to do is get in a go, there are a few small areas that need a little work, but this is your chance to add your touch to this wonderful classic.
The History and Paperwork
- Rolling off the Dagenham production line in November 1965 this Zephyr has lived an interesting life
- Originally it left the factory in full white, but it was then re-painted in the past to a two-tone grey and white affair
- The current owner decided to go for a more out there combination of red and white and doesn’t it just look stunning
- The history between 1965 to the late 2010s is a little thin, but there are a few images at the end of the gallery of the car in the past
- The current owner acquired the car in 2019 from the Essex area and started the process of restoring it
- When they got the car, the interior consisted of the front bench and nothing else
- From the paperwork, we can see that the head gasket was done in 2021
- There are also a few other assorted invoices for parts/work completed throughout the restoration
- The current owner did mention that the offside front wing has some damage, but we’ll recount this story later on in the listing
- It now sits ready for its next adventure with you
The Interior
- Completely re-trimmed
- New headliner
- Wonderfully done
- Nice and comfortable
When this car was collected the interior was no more than a steering wheel and the front bench seat. What the current owner has been able to do with that is amazing, there is now a fully complete and re-trimmed interior that is presented in lovely condition.
If we start by looking at the front bench seat, which is more than likely the original, we can see that it is presented very well indeed. Finished in a matching two-tone affair it looks stunning. The rear bench seat is much the same, presented very well for sale indeed.
To match the red colour pallet the carpets have also been replaced in favour of modern material. To help protect these new carpets the current owner has had a thick rubber over mat on top of them. As such they too look very good from all angles. Unsurprisingly the door cards are also in lovely condition, once again they follow the same two-tone colour pallet.
As we rise up the interior, we are presented with the full-width dashboard. It is here that you will find modern touches intertwined with original features. The current owner has fitted a modern radio, and some modern switches the operate some of the auxiliary lights. However, a lot of the original features still adorn this dash. The steering wheel, for example, this a lovely piece of 1960s design.
Above the steering wheel, you will find the characteristic linear speedometer, but a rare to see part is the gear selector screen that shows whether you’re in park, neutral, or drive. It is this display that makes this example very special.
Overall, the interior is presented in good condition indeed. The current owner has done a very good job of bringing this once sparse interior back to life. You will now be able to enjoy this car to its full potential from day one.
The Exterior
- Full re-spray
- Hard to find aftermarket rims
- Good chrome condition
Isn’t this just a good looking car, the full-length front grille with its inset headlights and extra spotlights make it look the real deal. The looks are further enhanced by the striking two-tone paint job that has been completed on this example.
If you look at some of the historical photos in the gallery you will see that this car has had a few paint finishes in the previous years. From white and grey to this deep red colour with a contrasting white roof. The current owner chose the right colour combination for this car, you definitely won’t lose it in a car park anytime soon.
When the photo shoot was taking place lots of passers-by, both young and old, admired this car. Many compliments were expressed about the look of the car. This should be a good sign that it may be able to draw a crowd at a car show.
There is one area of the exterior that, at the moment, doesn’t match the rest of the exterior condition.
The current owner mentioned that they lost the brakes and had to choose between bumping into an Audi or a hedge, the hedge was the lesser of two evils and as such, some slight bodywork will be required on the front offside area. There is a patch on the bonnet that has been slightly deformed, and the indicator/sidelight cover is no longer present. There are also some marks down the front wing, but these should polish out. One of the previous owners put the car on these rather fetching, hot-rod-like alloys. The current owner has had these refurbished and they now look very good indeed.

Overall, the exterior is presented well, there is that small area of marking on the corner, but this looks like the only area of the exterior that’ll need some work.
The Mechanics
- Rare automatic
- Runs and drives
- Head gasket was recently replaced
Under the bonnet of this Zephyr, you’ll find a big and sturdy inline six, this engine turns over easily and bursts into life. All you then need to do is select drive on the column and pull away, it really should be that simple. Thanks to the nature of the automatic gearbox, it should be a very easy classic to live with.
The current owner did mention that there are a few expected clunks here and there out on the road, but don’t forget this car is approaching 60 years old.
You may also wish to source a new exhaust for this Zephyr, over the years the original has deteriorated, but this does not affect the usage of the car at all.

For a car of its age, this Zephyr performs well on the road. It drove to the location on the day of the photo shoot, turned around a couple of times, and then drove home. All of this was completed without any issues.
You should be able to enjoy this classic motor from the day of collection, simply swing the door open, jump in, and go. Hopefully, this car will create many happy memories for you in the years to come.
Summary
Thanks to its restoration this Zephyr is now ready for you to write its next chapter, wherever you go with this car will always be a treasured memory. After you have completed a little bit of work on the areas mentioned you will have a showstopper of a car. Don’t forget that this example has the added rarity of being an automatic.
