The Appeal
Developed in record time on a shoestring budget, the Mustang was introduced in April 1964, achieving immediate success. Ford had expected to sell 100,000 cars in the first year, but dealers sold 22,000 on the first day.
Light, agile and fast, the Ford Mustang created a completely new genre of automobiles, known as pony cars, sports cars with attractive lines and good performance based on mass-produced mechanicals.
After just a few months, starting from August 1964, Ford made several changes to the original Mustang, of which 120,000 units had already been sold, adding the fastback bodywork to the coupés and convertibles for the 1965 model and offering a large number of accessories and trims, which allowed buyers to configure their Mustang in countless different ways.
Also starting in 1965, the six-cylinder engine was upgraded , offering more power and torque.
This fascinating 1965 Mustang Coupé comes with the improved 120 horsepower 200 six-cylinder engine, coupled to a three-speed manual gearbox. The seller informs us that the engine has been thoroughly restored like all the mechanics and is in very good shape.
This car is equipped with a beautifully restored interior featuring the special Interior Decor Group trim, also known as the “Pony Interior,” with seats decorated with a galloping Mustang horses theme, wood inserts on the dashboard and a special instrument panel.
The preserved bodywork is in fair condition for its age, with some visible flaws on the paint, such as scratches and chips, some bubbles and a few rust spots.
In Italy since 2020, it is equipped with updated Italian registration documents, is registered with the ASI (Italian Historic automotoclub) and comes with a Certificate of Historical and Collectible Relevance.
Elegant, well finished and well equipped, this Mustang retains all the purity of the original design of one of the most loved and well-known American sports cars ever.
Outfitted with a rare and very charming interior, reliable and well-tuned mechanics and an original bodywork which despite presenting some defects due to its age appears mostly solid, it is ready to give great satisfaction to its next owner, who will be able to enjoy its fun driving experience and to show it at any classic car event, where it will be admired and the centre of attention.
