The Appeal
Ask anyone of a certain age and the chances are they will have at some point in their life, had or spent considerable time in a Ford Cortina. Whether it was their own, their dads or anything in between, the Ford Cortina was the car for the everyman and has undoubtedly been a part of many families memories throughout the four generations production spanned. The glorious blue oval showed the world that a practical family car needn’t come at the compromise of style and driving quality.
This 1965 Cortina De Luxe is a wonderful example of the coveted first generation Cortina. With its classic styling and undeniable charm, it's a favourite among Ford collectors and enthusiasts, and the car we have here would certainly be a good fit within those circles. Comprehensively restored by the current owner, it boasts a refurbished 1200 engine and a fresh respray, standing today in truly fine form.
The History and Paperwork

- Genuine UK, home market car
- Purchased by the current owner in late 2005
- The car was taken to the vendors (an experienced member of the motor trade) home garage where he set about performing a thorough restoration of the car
- Backed by a solid, comprehensive history file
- Large selection of invoices for work undertaken and parts bought for both the restoration and general servicing throughout the car’s lifetime
- Invoice present for engine work and conversion to run on unleaded fuel
- Several photographs of the car’s restoration have been printed and sit with the history file
- Accompanied by a collection of previous MOT certificates
- Both tax and MOT exempt due to the vehicle’s historic status and age

The Interior
- Nicely presented, largely original Cortina interior in charming blue colour scheme

- Driver and front passenger seat have been recovered

- Good quality dash panel which has been recovered and colour changed to a lighter blue
- Interior switchgear and controls are highly presentable and look to be in good order
- Period Motorola radio which the owner advises still works

- Well sized boot area which now houses the relocated battery
- Central aftermarket speaker in rear parcel shelf
The Exterior
- Classic MK1 Cortina design, a truly iconic shape
- Well presented from an aesthetic perspective, in good original form
- Resprayed to as close to original light blue that the vendor could source during the extensive restoration process
- Complemented with a contrasting gloss white roof
- Paint is of a great standard throughout, not in concours condition, but certainly worth of a show display
- Fitted with new rear wheel arches prior to respray
- Good chrome trim throughout, exhibiting with some light pitting and a gentle patina in places
- External lighting and glass work are in fine form
- Four white steel wheels reside at ground level with decorative chrome hubcaps fitted
- A fifth spare wheel resides in the boot of the car for emergencies

The Mechanics

Summary
