The Appeal
The eager snort of the twin-cam, beautifully weighted controls, tractable performance and sublime handling are a mere smattering of the innumerable things we love about 105-Series Alfa Romeos. You'd be hard-pushed to find a better four-cylinder driver's car. They even look amazing. We rest our case.
Collectors get especially excited about the Bertone Coupés, specifically the early examples, celebrated for their utterly delightful 'Step-nose' front styling characterised by a simple full-length grille, two large headlamps and an unusual gap under the leading edge of the bonnet to aid engine cooling.
The 1965 example is just that, a Giulia Sprint GT 1600 which has now been converted to 1,750 specification - a common upgrade in period. Many cite the 1,750cc Nord twin-cam as the sweetest engine in the range, striking a perfect balanc between the reviness of the smaller units and the torque of the 2,000.
This car is perfect for UK buyers as a rare South African right-hand drive model that's spent most of its life away from our damp, salted roads. The vendor has ensured it is very well maintained during their ownership, with servicing undertaken by Alfa Romeo specialist SA Classics in Bedfordshire. In total, around £3500 has been spent on this car in the last six months, across electrics, braking, suspension and bodywork, with invoices to evidence this. Parts have all been supplied by well-regarded suppliers Classic Alfa.
The vendor notes:
"Production began for the sprint GT in 1964, so being a 1965 this is a very early Sprint GT in largely original condition, this is quite a rare find. Many of these have had the bumpers removed and been turned into "GTA replicas". The Sprint GT is not to be confused with a Junior, which was a more "entry level" product at the time, making this the premium offering for the period."
