The Appeal
The W111 was a very particular sort of Mercedes-Benz, one that mixed Stuttgart’s legendary sobriety with a new and slightly jazzy style, influenced by America. It was a rare moment of flair for the firm’s 60s output and gave the model its nickname - ‘fintail.’
All of which makes these handsome saloons popular with collectors today. Their sheer usability means that good, low mileage survivors like this one are particularly rare. It is the desirable ‘Sb’ model with twin carburettors lifting power to a useful 110bhp.
Just four registered keepers from new likely explains why it remains in such good order. The history file, including the original bill of sale, confirms that the colour scheme is factory correct. It is a former Mercedes Enthusiast magazine cover star and the condition clearly reflects the enthusiasm of its few owners. A very tidy example and one of the best we have seen for a while.
