The Appeal
Colin Chapman's Lotus Seven took a unique approach to the business of going faster. By cutting weight it didn't need a more power and created a very engaging driving experience. It is a formula that has endured, with the Seven concept still in production.
We're excited to present this rare opportunity to acquire a no expense spared, specially built S2 with an interesting backstory. Originally supplied as a self-build kit car in 1964, it was acquired in 2013 by a BRDC member as an unfinished S2 project, intended to be a third-string race car at HSCC race weekends, enabling an extra entry to the historic roads sports grid.

The original 1964 S2 Chassis complete with parts, was entrusted to Dr Matt King of Motor Racing Medics Ltd, the leading Formula Junior preparation. They were charged with a no-compromise rebuild, with no cost limits, and an emphasis on safety and performance being the only stipulation.
Following a detailed inspection early in the build, the original S2 chassis was considered beyond restoration on safety grounds. So, the decision was taken to rebuild the car around a replacement chassis supplied by Arch Motors of Huntingdon to period S2 specifications. Fittingly, Arch Motors supplied all of the original Lotus 7 chassis at the time. The bodywork was accurately recreated by hand in lightweight aluminium while the 1600 cc 120E engine was entrusted to George Wadsworth, leading formula junior and twin cam engine builder.

As the photographs attest, the whole car has been finished to a very high standard indeed.
Over time, the owner became involved in numerous other race series and championships, so although the original need for the car dissipated, the rebuild and preparation by Motor Race Medics continued with no limits on cost and with no deviation to outright performance and build quality.
It has covered a mere 40 miles since completion and would make a fine addition to any Lotus collection as a very competitive entry into historic road sports or, historic hill climbs and sprint championships. It's fully road legal, registered, complete with a current V5C and exempt from road tax and MOT testing.
