The Appeal
Since its initial launch, way back in late 1964 at the World’s Fair, the Ford Mustang has been a massive hit with the motoring public, and still is today.
One of the most famous and well-known cars in the world, the ford Mustang has become a legend and represents a time in the history of American motoring just perfectly being the ultimate piece of motoring Americana and is ‘the’ iconic American classic car.
This is a nice original example, imported from the dry state of California in 1999, since which time it had a couple of UK owners until being purchased in 2007 by the current owner, who has maintained and serviced the car regularly throughout his ownership.
The History and Paperwork

The car was treated to a full body respray and new vinyl roof in 2012 and he has continued to fettle and maintain the car as required to keep it in tip-top mechanical shape.
The Interior
- Pony motif seats
- Good original condition throughout
- Recent new carpets and mats
- Period AM radio
Finished in Black, the mostly original interior is looking very good, with new carpets and excellent deluxe Pony seats with all original headlining and door-cards.
This is a wonderful car to sit in, with a sporty five-dial dash displaying fuel, oil pressure, water-temperature and battery voltage.
There is no sun damage or any cracks to the new dashboard, replaced in 2006, and the retro looking radio has an ipod input connection creating an excellent and classic interior, which plays well with the interior chrome fittings which show their age, or rather patina, in places.
The heater, fan, vents and wipers all work just fine, with all windows being nice and clear and rolling up and down smoothly and easily.
The Exterior
- Lovely Vintage Burgundy paintwork
- Vinyl roof
- Original wheels with good tyres
- All original body panels
- Good chrome trim all round
The Vintage Burgundy paintwork is in mostly excellent condition with only a few small areas of bubbling paint and a slight ding in the rear nearside bumper to mention.
Panel fit is not perfect but this is how they came out of the factory and is all part of the car’s charm and character.
The wheels are all good and all sit on recent new rubber with the rest of the car presenting extremely well, with great road presence.
The Mechanics
- 289ci (4.8 -litre) V8
- 3 speed automatic transmission
- Nicely detailed and clean engine bay
- New brake shoes
- Various suspension arms replaced
- Very solid car with its original floor panels
- Regularly serviced annually by current owner with the last oil change being done about 11 months ago
The 289ci V8 runs beautifully and a very smooth automatic transmission make this an easy and great fun car to drive, sounding superb courtesy of that twin exhaust system.
The Summary
The first-generation Ford Mustang will remain a firm favourite with car enthusiasts the world over.
It represents a time when V8 muscle cars were the new best thing and the iconic Mustang is a car that will never go out of fashion always ensuring a strong demand for them, especially the early V8’s, and particularly the really nice unrestored examples like this one.
