The Appeal
If ever a car deserves greater recognition, it's the BMW 700. It was the Munich manufacturer's very first monocoque car, and strong sales topped up the coffers at a time when BMW was on the verge of financial ruin. This model played a crucial role in BMW's survival during the late 1950s, paving the way for future successes like the Neue Klasse and the 2002 Series. As if saving the company wasn't enough of an achievement in itself, the 700 also went on to excel in motorsport, spawning the highly competitive 700RS variant. A mightily important car then - and one most BMW fans have sadly never heard of.
We're excited to bring to market this ultra-rare right-hand drive BMW 700 Luxus LS - one of just two examples known to exist in the UK today. The BMW is reported to have been rebuilt during the late '80s, using rare genuine BMW parts. It then underwent a mechanical rebuild and repaint in the '90s and was subsequently reupholstered in 2018.
The vendor has owned the 700 since 2017 and has kept it garaged. It comes with a large quantity of historic paperwork and photographs. The car was last serviced in December 2023 at an indicated 4,260 km, which included adjusting the brakes and replacing the engine oil, oil filter, air filter, and gearbox oil.
The vendor remarks:
"It attracts a lot of attention; most people comment they have never seen one before and find it a charming small saloon car from the late '50s & early '60s."
