The Appeal

If you were looking for a full-size limousine back in the 1960s, then Rolls-Royce had you covered with the Phantom V. Its simply enormous proportions, (especially by the standards of the time), allowed Rolls to build a spacious and highly luxurious cabin and the car become beloved of dignitaries and pop stars alike. John Lennon treated his Phantom V to a psychedelic paint scheme and while Queen Elizabeth II was more conservative with hers, it’s safe to that both enjoyed what Rolls-Royce's flagship limo had to offer.
This left-hand drive 1963 example is yet to be registered in the UK, but we can certainly see why it was selected for import. It remains in fantastic overall condition, especially on the inside and so it would appear bo costly retrimming or woodwork replacement lies ahead of the next owner.
For those seeking vintage luxury, this Phantom V would be an excellent candidate.

The History and Paperwork

  • Formerly formed part of a collection of a Kuwaiti gentleman
  • Left-hand drive
  • Yet to be UK road-registered, however it will be UK registered with all duties paid prior to handover
  • The current (five-figure) odometer reading is 18,000 miles although we’re unable to confirm if this is correct

The Interior

  • This car hails from the era when chauffeur would sit upon leather while passengers were treated to velour
  • Fabulous blue upholstery in brilliant condition for its age
  • All the intricate woodwork [resents well, with the lightest of patina in places
  • Heating/ventilation controls and a radio are provided for the rear passengers
  • The carpeting and headline appear in lovely order throughout
  • All the original controls, instruments and switches present well
  • Generous luggage compartment

The Exterior

  • Grand and imposing Limousine bodywork courtesy of H.J. Mulliner Park Ward
  • OEM steel wheels complete with hub caps and tall tyres for a smooth ride
  • Rear-hinged rear doors for easier egress
  • Very straight bodywork
  • No signs of corrosion to the bodywork
  • Underneath all presents well and has evidently been treated with underseal
  • The prominent Rolls-Royce slatted grille presents well with no notable pitting to any of the chrome
  • The bumpers and other trims all present well
  • Smart silver paintwork

The Mechanics

  • 6.2-litre petrol V8
  • Four-speed GM Hydramatic gearbox
  • All presents well under the bonnet
  • The vendor informs us that it starts readily, selects gears smoothly and drives well

Summary

What a wonderful car to travel in. The interior is amongst the finest ever fitted to a Rolls-Royce and this well-preserved example seemingly wants for very little. We’re sure it will be the new owner’s pride and joy.
