Pre-bids

1963 Porsche 356 B Coupé

Highlights

  • Older restoration to a good standard
  • Tasteful grey over tan colour scheme
  • Offered in highly usable condition
  • Imported to Spain with VAT paid

The Appeal

It is, without a doubt, one of the most important sports cars ever made. Developed by Ferry Porsche, the son of Volkswagen founder Ferdinand, the 356 was reportedly inspired by a Type 1 ‘Beetle’ Cabriolet with a supercharged engine fitted. The 356 was Porsche’s first model, establishing the brand as a serious sports car manufacturer, honing the air-cooled, rear-engined concept as a blueprint for its next car - the 911.
We’re delighted to offer this highly usable example of a 1963 356 B Coupé. As the photographs show, this is a highly usable example in good condition following an older restoration. It now sports a healthy patina throughout and the vendor informs us it’s in good running, driving order.
Recently imported to Spain with all EU taxes paid, it’s now up to the next owner to register this 356 in their country of choice.

The History and Paperwork

  • It has been imported and the VAT has been paid, reportedly ready to be registered in any EU country
  • MPH speedometer/odometer
  • 17,000 miles indicated
  • ITV valid until 2027 - certificate included in the gallery below
  • Some repairs and maintenance carried out since restoration, with invoices included in the sale

The Condition

  • Restored bodywork now showing some signs of patina
  • Light surface corrosion around the lower sills and quarter panels (photographed)
  • The grey paintwork presents very well overall with a glossy finish
  • The vendor notes a few paintwork imperfections that they say don’t necessarily show in the photographs
  • Smart chromework, also showing light signs of wear
  • Brown leather upholstery with minimal wear overall
  • Complete with period-correct ribbed rubber mats
  • Period radio retained, modern speakers added
  • The controls and VDO instrumentation appear well-preserved for their age
  • We understand the cabin electrics to be in good order

The Mechanics

  • 1.6-litre air-cooled flat-four boxer engine
  • Four-speed manual gearbox
  • Original-looking and well-presented engine compartment
  • We’re informed that the 356 is in good running order, though the vendor notes some light maintenance may be required
